I think the system works as intended, to a large degree. As a past winner in the beginner category, I did basically what Bill laid out--I entered my models in the beginner contest in part because I relatively recently took the hobby back up again (my winning entry was my 5th build since coming back) and in part because I wanted to gain a bit of confidence. Having "graduated," I'll keep entering my builds in the advanced category contest from time to time. Even if I don't win ever again, it's still going to be fun and challenging!
*hehe* I applied for the "Beginners" section with my third model built in a more or less serious way... and was put to the advanced with the words: "its good enough! It definitely applies for Advanced Level" I was absolutely fine with it, because that is already a compliment itself! Was fun anyway to take part and compete! It is and will probably ever be a hobby! Something to produce fun (despite the carpet monster )
to this months models: vote's done! Great work again!

Vote in. Some really impressive work in the Advanced group...I kept going back and forth between three, and it was hard to narrow it even that far.. .
Congrats all...the talent level of those who enter is really something.

Votes are in. Like Mike, I also managed to narrow the advanced section down to my top 3, but thereafter had a really tough time deciding - alas, there can be only one.
Well done all

I'd vote but for some reason theres a "404 not found" message every time I try to login to the "Kitmaker" site. It's been this way ever since I joined, probably why this is going to register as my first post I think. Tried everything from resetting password to creating a new account, nothing working.
But anyway, great models on there.
