My vote has been cast, and i cant help but comment on the m20 not belonging in the beginner class i would have voted for it in the advanced group.

Right then, we are using an 'honour' system, where the entrant indicates what level they want to compete in. In light of our continuing improvements this will be looked at next month.

I only wish my models were so good when I started out. All 4 models are excellent.

Camo, stowage and weathering .. they have it all. I wonder sometimes if there is a need for a beginner class? In my opinion ..... better photographs, a bit more originality and extra finess in the details ... these models would all realistically compete with those that win in the advanced class.

Duty done. My personal view on the 2-tier system is simply that it provides an entry point for those wishing to compete for the first time a way to do so without having to go up against proven winners right out of the gate. The whole "beginner" vs "advanced" designations are somewhat artificial to begin with...if we just labelled them Class 1 and Class 2, it would still happen...some would feel like entering Class 1 to gain confidence while others are already confident enough to enter into Class 2. The new rules indicate of course that once someone has won at the Class 1 level they must then compete at the Class 2 level since their work has clearly been recognized as being tops for that category and they are ready to move on. It's the same system that AMPS uses for "classes" of models in competition...you place Gold in one class and you graduate on to the next one.

Just want to note that my original comment was meant as a compliment to the builder of the model and i hope its recieved that way after looking again i agree with Frank all of them are indeed very well built models and also agree with the new or recently revised rules that you posted Bill about once winning the begginers class you then only get to compete in the advanced class that gives people a chance toget their feet wet,

I think the system works as intended, to a large degree. As a past winner in the beginner category, I did basically what Bill laid out--I entered my models in the beginner contest in part because I relatively recently took the hobby back up again (my winning entry was my 5th build since coming back) and in part because I wanted to gain a bit of confidence. Having "graduated," I'll keep entering my builds in the advanced category contest from time to time. Even if I don't win ever again, it's still going to be fun and challenging!

First off, I am humbled once again by the fine work of the beginner, intermediate and advanced submissions.

My personal take on the different levels is 1-3 built models=beginner, 4-10=intermediate and 10 & above built models=advanced. That is how I judge myself and use it as a learning curve. It's just a shame that there can not be 3 separate categories, since I feel that intermediate can not compete fairly with advanced. Then again, it's just a fun and exciting thing to do, let's not lose sight of that. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Hi Bill. Sorry for the continuous/repeated input on this particular subject and this will be the last time. Your suggestion is an excellent one.
I think its great that there is a section for newer modellers and total beginners "to wet their feet" and a part of me wants to protect that. My points of view, are based on the models displayed, and all of which, I believe are great models. I hadnt considered that some have never competed before, or feel they dont have the confidence to compete at the higher level.
But as its impossible to keep everybody happy all the time, I think you´ve chosen the best possible solution.

Another difficult month with the choices, but my duty is done.

From reading the posts this is the first i have heard of once you win the beginer class you must then compete in the advanced class. I think this is a great way for someone to improve their skills and compete with the pros. Also this should alleviate the issue if someone keeps entering and winning the beginer class. Once you win it you move on

cheers

To the modelers who entered this months competition. You have made it very difficult to choose. In both categories. I wish I had more votes.
