Torbjörn,
Really can't tell you because of security reasons, but the basic of it is that it is supposed to block detination signals from trigger to bomb.

Sorry abou that buddy.

Thanks, I get the general idea of it. Maybe it could be something to add on my next Humvee.

Hey Joe, for the heck of it, I made a Rhino anti-IED system. I'm gonna be making a build sheet with measurements in the next couple of days. I'll make sure you get a copy of it. I put it over in one of Bill's posts here: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/109432&page=2

Thanks Joe, take it with a large grain of salt. I just found out that the pole is two pieces, plus making the base piece was tricky. But thats the beauty of concept pieces.

I’m back and the panels are built, painted and installed, not completely as I have to glue on the tires. And yes there was cursing…a lot of cursing. There were times of giving up and thought I’d never see the end . By far this was the hardest project I’ve tackled. Anyhow we’re moving on, next the gear and the figures…figures that’s whole other subject

More to follow...

EH, what did I tell you Joe? Told you you would be cursing by the end of the last slate panel.

Looks good though!

JOe
Nice build well It seems that you struggle for the slat

BTW may be it will be a nice help for us if some one can make a comparative review of all the slat kit around the market now ?
What do you think guys ??

Cheers

Joe, it looks excellent, all that cursing and time and patience paid off.
What was the chronology to the building/painting. Any advise about construction and painting sequence?
I would think that if you attached the support bars to a painted surface (without scraping away the paint) and hung all that heavy etch on the bars the join of he bars to the paint might fail? Would you do anything differently now that you did it once?
I agree with Seb that it would very beneficial if some one reviewed and/or test built all the slat armor kits on the market. A big job but it is also big money to invest in something that is not up to scratch.
Very clean and accurate build, you should be proud.

Hi Bill,
My English is very bad for review, but here is small comparison.
On first look have Voyager Slat incorrectly top console for Slat. This is big different on first look.
Griffon is look good but I don`t have this in my hand.

I understand your English well enough, especially when you show pictures of LAV III's ha ha.
Your comparison is very clear So far I have heard of Pro Art , Griffon, Voyageur and Eduard. We all know your association with Eduard but you have built more slat than anyone that I've heard of and you are a professional after all. I'm afraid I'm a new comer to Armorama so I have to concede to the more senior, more experienced members of this forum to determine the proper person to act as an evaluator for these products. This is a serious undertaking as I think which ever set deemed to be the best both in accuarcy and in value will have a lot of potential sales. Having said that I don't know many who would jump at the chance to actually spend that much time of their life to building 4 separate slat sets for the Stryker. Perhaps four different people could build one each with the kit drawn from the "virtual hat", or perhaps there are enough Eduard sets being built that only the remaining three need to be evaluated????
This is Joe's thread after all and I don't want to jack it but what do you have to say about this?

I like build Voyager PE. I don`t know Griffon but I order this Slat because I wish build all for comparison. Pro Art for me no good because PE with resin is no hard. I look as well on small detail because I have circa 300 detail photos and Manual. For that reason I wish buy all Slat for comparison.

I don’t mind at all if there is talk about the other aftermarket slats or other subjects, not only do we pick up information we also learn something that my never get passed on. So talk away my friends…

What was the chronology to the building/painting

Well I took Pete’s advice of starting from back to front, well sort of. I did start at the rear and moved forward, but instead of gluing on the separate panels I glued the whole section together. Oh yeah…I painted the Stryker first, all the detail and decals followed by a dull coat. then I installed SOME of the support bars. I left some of the supports off so I could tape over the detailed painting (tools, lights and decals).

Here’s a taping tip…if you need some low tack masking tape well cut the pieces you need and stick them to your wrist or belly. It works great and easy to do with good results. You can also stick it onto a shirt sleeve of a paint leg.

As for gear and figures, well I be using a mixture of Real Model, Legends, Legends Figures and I just got the two sets (Stryker Figures) from Hello Miniatures which are great by the way. I hope they come out as well (uniforms) as Pete’s (Epi) figures did…

Joe, this is quite something, your slat looks well done and the miniscule bends (intentional or not ; ) ) will do well to show the wear and tear those things go through. Have you started the Rhino yet?

I think you are going to make me and many others very happy if this Eduard Slat is what I am thinking it is.

Very nice work on your Stryker Joe.

Someone asked how a Rhino works earlier and received a reply that it was classified. Rhinos are not classified, Warlocks and Dukes are, A Rhino is just of couple of Diesel glow plugs mounted in a box. They act as a heat source to set off IR controlled IEDs before they can score a direct hit on the host vehicle.
Just an additional note for Stryker mounted Rhinos-the box should point down on Strykers, not up like on a M1114 or M1151.
