After a months break I decided to put down the MH-60 Pave Hawk and get back to this project. The blast panel were made from Evergreen plastic as are the other parts, angle iron, channel and rods. The kits storage racks were added on and detail filled the rest in.
Upper haul finished and panels added on, hatches left opened for the figures. There’s a few antennas left off, will put them on later at the end of the build.
I put on a few of the rolled up straps, it was done by painting masking tape, cut thin strips and rolled on a toothpick.
Then using a second toothpick I picked up a small drop of superglue and dabbed it to the back of the roll to keep it’s shape.
Now just glue them in where you want an wah-lah…simple enough.
I was thinking about adding this in…here’s two questions. First I do have some photos of the device, but this is the closest one I have. Would anyone have some close-ups and how it’s wired up and second would the CV vehicle have this installed like the ICV’s.
Now for the hard stuff, I plan to start working on the slat armor either tomorrow or Monday…hope it works with out getting thrown across the room

As usual, fantastic attention to detail, you are the king of styrene! I love the tape straps much better than the lead foil which always looks like lead foil, the tape is more more in scale. How are the straps kept rolled on the real vehicle? Especially love the yellow handle on the shovel, certainly draws attention to the beautiful detail of that area.
Would pictures of IED (flag device) from HMMWV's be of any help?
This is a blog mother, absolutely great work.

Thanks Bill and Jeff,
The yellow shovel…yeah I like it also. I seen one sometime back while looking through the network of photos and it stuck in my head. I had to repaint the other wooden tools, they were in that blond natural color but just didn’t look right. Not sure how the straps hold together, probably a buckle. I still need to add in a few vertical straps under the stowage bins.
As for the IED device, I could take anything you can throw at me, the more the better.

Joe,
Get with Jeff (USARMY3457), I sent him a book ont he WARLOCK systems and Anti IED devices. He did a paper on the stuff. He might have some good pictures and info for ya.
Advice on the photo etch sir, drik a beer before you get started and always walk away when you get that feeling your about to throw it against the wall and by all means, KEEP SMALL CHILDEREN AWAY!
PS
I still havent forgotten about those pictures for you from the book. I just asked my wife to remind me to get them scanned into the computer tonight. I am going to take some more inprogress shots of my Styker tonight and post them later, so I will get your stuff off too.

Looks great Joe. In regards to the straps, we used to keep them rolled tight by running them thru their own buckles and then wrapping/rolling them inside on theirselves, if that makes any sense. Hope that helps. "Q"

And here I am!!!! The book Pete sent me doesn't have exterior vehicle shots on Warlock (or any of the other 25+ systems) and contains mostly PMS of the stuff with a very concise and helpful description on how the concept works. Any case, its locked up in my dorm room which I don't have access to until January when break ends...oh well. I'll look through my image database and see what I can find on Warlock images. Bill's pretty much got you covered too - great job Bill. And as for whether a CV would have it, I think its up to unit SOP and supply but if I were a CO I would think it was in my units best interest that I have one too, though thats me. It also really comes down to how it is employed. Unless they are supplied with enough, not every vehicle has one and other vehicles just overlap the coverage, so either way you are correct.
Pete I'm glad you've found a Lesson's Learned from your incident with multiple implemental tasks! The beer sounds like a good idea!

Joe, looks great. Thanks for the tip on rolling the straps. Eduard has them with the buckles, in one of their sets for those interested in that avenue.

Bill,
Thanks a ton, they will help. I'm understanding it more and more with each picture you provide. I’m hoping to start on it soon after the Christmas holiday.
Thanks,
Joe

Great glad they're of some use, I'll continue the hunt. I have to make one as well so perhaps we can pool resources and get your buddy Matt to cast a few, I'm sure they will be in demand if they are as good as your usual stuff.

Hi Joe
Do you have a pic of the scribing tool you use? I have dental tooth pics and various others but struggle to keep a steady hand. How do you get the straight or curved scribe lines on odd shaped panel surfaces?
I have to try and get the roof of my DROPS shaped and I am dreading it as the lines will all have to be parallel and the same depth. Any ideas as to how to maintain the same depth?
Thanks
Nige

Hey Nige,
Here is my scribing tool, now I don’t know where you can get one your way but I’m sure you can, just ask some of the aircraft guys. I’m sure they can point you to one.
In this photo you’ll see a roll of Dymo Tape, it’s used for labeling.
Using the both are simple, just peel and stick the tape where it’s to be scribed. Run the tool lightly a few time along the edge of tape. To keep the same depth just keep a number of time and repeat on your next scribing.
Hope this helps, anything else feel free to ask.

Many thanks for that. I would not have thought of dymo tape, but I can see why now cause it is stiff but flexible, has a thickness to run the scribe over and self adhesive to boot.
I have the double ended dentist tools (ouch when you hold them wrong). Do you use any chissel like tools for wider scrapes? Closest I have got so far are tools for sculpting clays. Not tried them yet but they seem a bit broad.
Thanks again

Excellent job so far
May I ask something?
Are you going to add slat armor on your M1130 ?
Are the CV/TACP Strykers used in OIF? Do they have slat armor?
thanks in advance.

I'll at least answer part of your questions. The CV/TACP is most definitely used in OIF within the Stryker Brigades. And all Strykers - no exceptions - have slat installed on them in-country.
