It’s becoming hilarious every time a new allied figure set is released. I’ve read a thread on another site where these are considered almost a "let-down" because they’re too 'unit-specific'. It must be rather demoralising for Dragon when showing a little initiative, yet the "what they are not", is the topic of conversation.
But the reality is we have a new set of allied figures, with a uniform that has not been available before, and appears to me, to be pretty useful ... could be a self-contained dio or the poses altered slightly and used in varying situations. Personally, Id like to judge them on their own merits, and wouldn’t mind having them. I think it just crowns an excellent year for allied modellers .... don´t think any other year has seen as many new releases as 2007.
Thanks for the news item Jim.

One possibility (which hasn't been explored yet) is that this set could actually be usuable for Korea as well. I also have the 'unit-specific' doubt, but it is, IMO, a very radical move for DML to go beyond the usual U.S. Infantry sets and bring something which should have enormous potential for dioramas. Once again, it's a question of doing some research and adding a modicum of imagination...

Ive noticed there seems to be a tendancy to dump on Dragon lately..these new figs are somewhat specialized, yet any modeller worth his salt would see the potential for them. How many US troop figs on the market are wearing winter gear?
I am not a hardcore Dragonman, but they do fill an important niche in our hobby-that is to provide EXCELLENT quality molds(no one can argue with that)at a reasonable price.
In a time when our selection is so good, and with computergames being so popular with young people I think we have a responsability to cultivate our hobby.
I notice no one complaining when Masterbox puts out a niche set of figs(I think Masterbox is great too BTW).
I guess I just dont understand why this set is getting badpress. I know Ill buy a set, probably to go with my Kettenkrad/Pupchen set. I have some Railroad rockmolds to set it in the mountains, beside a blown bridge ..coooooooll...

Well, mainly the criticism is because of the more 'limited' nature of the set against the more 'generic' U.S. Infantry...

Yes and no.. I'm not exactly their Number One Cheerleader as I feel that various elements of their release program have been lacking imagination (subjects and, in particular, poses). Some people are dumping on them as its quite fashionable in certain circles Others will give them the full Attaboy treatment if they started selling cardboard boxes

They have done (and continue to do) some amazingly innovative material they've also alienated a lot of people with an extremely agressive defensive posture over their releases..

Call me strange, OK, a lot of people do! But I like being able to buy a vignette in a box at an affordable price. I really can't see why all the negative hoop pla over it. 15 bucks for a 4 figure vignette, verse 30 or 40 dollars or more for a resin 3 or 4 figure vignette.

As for a limited nature, hell they've managed to make a figure of every one of my relatives, in every uniform, and every outfit and situation on the German side of the OMeara clan.

eww eww please let me pay more for two resin figures that go together.

I was excited when I saw the line drawings. Now I'm stoked completely. I may get two of these, which is out of character for me. Maybe this is a harbinger of things to come. Perhaps DML will get more specific in th future with some British Commandoes, Australians in New Guinea, Ghurkas etc..

Absolutely NO COMPLAINTS from me

Reasons are:
1. It's NOT German
2. It's Allied, Okay US but anything Green is good at this stage!
3. Multiple uses 10th MD and as Jim has stated Korea

As a question though, would some of the uniform have made its way to the Ardennes? Possibilities here are endless

I don't think this set would work for Korea. The overcoats they wore then were different than the anoraks these fellows are wearing. As far as I know, this uniform would be specific to the Italian campaign and specifically the mountainous regions. They will work for 1st SSF or 10th Mountain, but nothing else, unless I'm mistaken. It's interesting to note that the kneeling fellow is wearing the ski-boots with the associated leggings. Never done before in miniature that I know.

Reading the thread, my only gripe was going to be that Ron's artwork was yet again going to be way superior to the actual figure poses...
But in this case I was pleasantly surprised! They do have most of the posing of his boxart, and this will definitely make its way into my collection, Gen2 and all...
The shoepacs also will get some use in my collection.
As for how specific they are, maybe it'll make some people do research to a part of the war not too often visited, as there was a war down there and not just NWE... The diorama possibilities although limited add a huge opportunity for some great groundwork and presentation...

Funny how the first figures I had as a little tacker were the Airfix 1/32 series which featured plenty of ghurkas! Of course I used them as Aussies, save for the wielded khukri

I think this is a great new set of figures and I hope Dragon will release more of these subjects in the future, like British Royal Marine Commando's or perhaps less known Allied forces like the Marrocan, Algerian and Tunesian soldiers of the French exp. forces in Italy.

I have just seen the Osprey book of the FSSF and I think that this set will suit for them also, so I welcome this development from DML. Please listen to the cries for the other, before mentioned units (ghurkas, ANZAC troops, etc.) too!

I like this one!
Pose and proportion wise they are pretty decent. Plus the gear that comes with it looks fantastic!
I just hope the guy with BAR doesnt shoot himself in the face accidentally
