hi everyone, my next sherman project is a M4A2 which took part in the assault on tarawa. here are some 'work in progress' pictures..

the building went smoothly..not much problem with the kit's parts. flexible tracks cut short the assembling time. well we'll going to miss the inditracks. i added an academy 50.cal MG on the turret. cons: no aluminum gun barrel which is common with dragon kits. comments and suggestion are welcome.

Nice start here Ed
Looks like a nice clean fit of the fenders mate. Although I would run some putty to fill the remainder of the curved gap on the inside top edge.
Remember to fill in the gap between the transmission housing and the bottom of the bolt strip; it was one piece!
And the shot of the front shows that the brush guards could be squashed slightly (and gently!) above the horizontal supports to form a less rounded shape at the tip.
I do like this kit, and will be certain to pick one up for a Pacific diorama...
Cheers
Brad

hi brad and thanks for the tip. hi everyone, i have a one curious question...will it be alright to open..both the fixed scope on the hull and the rotating scope on the hatch door? a modeller friend told me to close whichever is not use. looking at the scopes..clearance between them was too narrow for the driver to move around them. surely one would get in a way.

I agree with your friend, and personal choice for me would be to use the rotating hatch mounted periscopes. I'm basing this solely on the type of warfare this tank would experience, with close quarters fighting and the possibility of Japanese soldiers attacking the Shermans flank on foot, so any lateral viewing would be an advantage?
Still looking good mate!

Ed -
Very nice...like the way your photo-etch has turned out, the front fenders came out well, as did your effect resembling the cast surface. Not a huge Sherman fan but your progress is awesome.
Looking forward to your paint scheme. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!

thanks everyone..thanks kevin, more WIP pictures..almost done..but one thing that needs fixing are the decals. they tend to 'float' on matt paint surface. any tip/suggestion would be greatly appreciatted.

Looks great, awesome painting. As for the decals I swear by a coat of future, then micro-set when applying the decal and a coat of micro-sol afterwards to really snug it down onto the texture. So far this has made the decals "melt" into the model and look like paint after a finish of dull coat.
Again great sherman, excelent job!

Hey Ed
Nice effect with the palm leaves! Are they feathers??!
You've obtained an intriguing finish with your paint work; I think I like it
As for the decals, you can apply them after the basecoat. That way all 'weathering' is affecting the decals at the rate of the tank surface, as per the real thing. Firstly use a spray of gloss where they are to be placed; makes for the best surface to mate with. Then once all decals are in place, try a setting solution if available. Then use gloss to coat the decals and whole model ready for washes etc. Finally a shot of matte over the lot to finish...
Nice creativity with the lolly wrappers mate!
Cheers

hi and thanks guys for the comments and suggestions, no pigeons were hurt during the making of this project..LOL. anyway..i found out something new to fix the silvering..asked some of our members on the local modelling club IPMS -BAC..and here's what i've gathered..solvaset and clear coat. well solvaset was not available in our local shop..so i've tried the clear coat to fix my silvering...but there's a twist..i diluted tamiya clear coat with plain water to make application easier..and it works like magic...check out the picture below...
