I am in the midsts of building Trumpeter's E-100 Ausf b and I thought of somthing. I guess that a ladder would have been a standard piece of equipment for these beasts had they ever made it to combat. I look at the model and wonder how the hell you would get onto the vehicle. I will post pictures of the finished model. I like the kit and it is a qiuck build.

Well it's all theoretical but all tank crews usually had a preferred route of climbing aboard the tank. Often you see crews that had welded extra steps and hand holds. While not unheard of, a ladder seems overly complex. Look around on the model and see where a combination of lifting lugs, fittings, wheels and tracks would make for a logical mounting point. Then I'd slop some dried mud and hand prints in the dust near those fittings!

The only thing that would make this kit even better.. Is if Friulmodel would bring out a set of track fo it...

Escape hatch at the bottom of the hull?
Seriously, maybe a ladder (collapsible type?) was carried inside.

Uh? Isn't that just a standard late-type KingTiger track? I'm sure you'd need more than one set, and that means beaucoup $$$...

Hmm, OK, just checked a couple of references. No, it's not a KT track, looks substantially wider...

the track on the E-100 is a lot wider and longer. The Tiger used a 32" wide track and the E-100 used a 40" wide track.. It sure would be nice if Frulmodel came out with a set of track for them. I need seven sets.

The issue of the crew getting into the E-100 also worried me a bit. Without the side skirts I guess they could have gotten on the hull, but the turret posed a problem. Which I solved by adding extra steps (as with the Ferdinand):
