HI all.
I am looking to begin a diorama about Canadians in Italy. I was wondering if someone had a good site that had some pics from the 40's of Italy to help me plan my groundwork. I want to have a bren carrier, Sherman III and some soldiers along a road but want some reference on the countryside. I have done some image searching but was wondering about a possible site full of pics.
Thanks for any help

Hi Paul,
Have a visit to the Imperial War Museum site and search under Italy and WW2. Try colour and B & W. There are pretty good range of colours ones and lots of B & Ws

Hey Paul
This also may help.
It is mostly of the Polish army, but still many Shermans are featured in sections.
It features the Marche region of Italy, which is on the Northern side from memory...

You could also try the Canadian archives, they have an equivalent to the IWM collection online.

for some moving images, go visit You tube, in special a guy called, GDHouston, he's got over 600 video's , there was a special doc about the monté casino debacle, among others.

You might also want to try this site :
[url=http://www.45thdivision.org/
Hope I got the link posted right so you can just click on it, but if not, just type it in.
Of course the 45th was one of the main divisions that kept that whole operation from being a failure back on the beaches. I have contributed a lot of pictures from my dad in the 160th F.A. Been working with the site owner and still need to get him a bunch of other pics that I have, but busy with work. Hope this helps.

Just as an update on the 45th site. Sometimes not all of the pics may pull up. If that happens, just hit the refresh button and the rest will usually appear.

Here's a suggestion: watch "The English Patient"...
Seriously, I did a similar research a while ago, here's a few links you could use:

These are pretty much random Italian small-town photos from the 1930/40's (some even older, but I doubt anything substantial changed until WWII.) I did find them very useful for diorama work, I hope they can be of some help for your project.
