Did any of these get the turret cheek and hull applique armor added on?
TIA!!

In North West Europe - Hull side applique frequently (going by the IWM photos), turret cheek applique, very hard to tell thanks to turret camouflage/track block stowage, but no obvious examples spotted FWIW.

Hi Rick,
Yes, Sherman MkIII tanks were fitted with applique armour, there are lots of pictures of them serving in N.W. Europe with the 8th and 27th Armoured Brigades. Most of these tanks were DD's or fitted out for deep wading.

Thanks Phil! That's absolutely perfect. Reason is,if nothing shoots my idea down ,I have the Italeri M4A2 Marine Sherman kit and enough Formations and Tank Workshop bits to make a Sherman III.Deep wading kit in the box already is major bonus! Now where can I find markings for the 8th or 27th armored brigades? Fingerprint Designs?
Cheers to friends!

The Italeri kit is a late 47 degree version IIRC. I doubt these would have been fitted with deep wading gear in British service. They would be too late for D-Day, and would it be necessary for the Rhine crossing?

Hi Rick,
If your not in a hury, just wait for DML's Sherman III (Sicily)
Slap some hull applique armor on it and your done.
No turret cheek armor.

Hi Rick,
The M4A2"s used at this time were the Fisher hull as found in the Dragon M4A2 Tarawa, or the Pullman as used in the Dragon Sherman MkIII. Both types were seen with or without full applique armour. Some of the Pullman tanks had spoke type wheels, others were really early models with drivers visors (DV) hoods.

Rick,
By the time the 47 degree hull entered production, all M4A2 tanks were being shipped to Russia. I have seen no references to any M4A2 tanks of this type being used by the British. In 1945 a small shipment of the final M4A2 model, the Sherman MkIIIBY (HVSS) were supplied for testing.

Thankyou for clearing this up, Phil. Have got the fix for the project. Had almost all the stuff on hand before the DML announcements so one more wasn't a biggy.
Thanks again to you guys for the able and timely help. It's what make this site so great.
Cheers to all!
