I'm looking at getting into military modeling & am thinking about doing a large diorama in 1/48. Berlin 45. My question, as a newbie, is there a current list of all 1/48 mfgs. & products now available? It seems like there may be lots of small mfgs. out there making odds & ends in 1/48 but where do I find them? Cheers.

No, there isn't.. It's true what you say, there ARE a lot of manufacturers doing 1/48th scale but even with it's 'minority' position with respect to 1/35th, there is (even now) no list avilable as there's simply too much out there. Is there anything you're particularly looking for? If you could be more specific...

This site has a 1/48 scale kit list and review section that may be of some use to you: http://track48.com/shop/home.php.
They have a 1/48 scale forum and their web store caters to 1/48 scale armor modeling.
There are several sites dedicated to 1/48 scale armor.
This Yahoo group has kit lists of the old Bandai and Aurora kits: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/quarterscalearmor/
Perth Military Modelling Site has a section devoted to 1/48 scale armor: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/48/48reviews.htm
Missing Lynx has its own dedicated 1/48 scale forum. This is the most active of 48th scale forums and most members there can point you in the right direction when it pertains to 48th scale armor: http://www.network54.com/Forum/527528/
This company is an established 1/48 scale armor conversion vendor: http://www.propaganda-kompany.com/.
And another company dedicated to 48th scale armor modeling: www.fighting48th.com

May I offer one suggestion? I've often read of people entering the hobby and their first project is an enormous diorama -- which sounds like what you have in mind. May I caution you to start small and really see if you'll have the stamina to complete your plans?
If the Battle of Berlin is your focus know that there wasn't much German armor there. Options could be Tiger II, late StuG IIIG, Jagdpanzer 38(t) -- all available from Tamiya.
Tamiya 1/48 kits are very well engineered and builder friendly. Why don't you get one or two of them first to see how you like the hobby. Then get some good references on the Berlin battles and hunker down for some Soviet armor like the Hobby Boss 1/48 T-34/85. Other later war Soviet armor is available as resin (pricey and for the experienced modeller only).
Good luck to you.

Thanks Roy, I appreciate the advise.. I'm an x model railroader, so having built a detailed layout that was 15' x 25,' a "dinky" little 2' x 4' diorama in 1/48 should be not so bad. : ). Also, I'm a model builder by trade. Check out my company, www.downtowndeco.com. Basically I am doing the diorama to explore entering the military diorama market w/ some 1/48 kits.
In any case, thanks again. I'm looking forward to this new project.

Randy, some interesting looking material on your site. I guess a medium-sized diorama SHOULDN'T be too taxing after all!
