Hey guys,
I'm working on a Tamiya Sherman for a Tarawa dio, and I need a technique for weathering the rubber band tracks so as to make them look sandy (like HERE). I have MM Acryl paints, and some assorted artist's pastels in earth tones, as well as Tamiya's weathering sets "A" and "B".
The deadline for this project is tommorrow, so any tips or help are very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Samuel

That looks like all pigment work to me. You should use the pastels ground up (rub them on sandpaper to produce a powder) and the Tamiya kits to produce this appearance. Apply the pastels with a soft brush and build them up until you get the look you're after.

I have one of the tamiya weathering sets as well (I think the A set), the one that has the light sand, dark sand, and the dark mud brown. Your best bet would be to use the sand dry (just rub it on with a brush) for lightly sanded areas using both light sand and the darker sand for a little color variation. For the heavily soiled parts use a little alcohol on your brush to make like a paste and apply it for the heavily soiled areas. I’ve noticed with my tamiya set that the colors react very well with rubbing alcohol and will thin like a water color paint set. I hope this helps.
