I click on "latest posts" and the majority of the first page is a user who has answered every introduction post for the past several months. So many happy faces that the latest post page looks like it was sponsored by Wal-Mart.

I can see answering a few of the intro posts for the last week or so, but when the initial hello post was made in May or even February, that's a little much.

Maybe the hide user button will filter out some of the posts.

Of course but yesterday the same person posted virtually the same reply to 45 introductions. If someone feels they have to welcome verey new member then why not do that when they originally post? why wait 5 months before replying?

All those posts push the others down the Latest post page meaning they might go unanswered.

there's really no intuitive guide for forum etiquette. i'm sure he/she doesn't know they are being annoying. maybe someone should just send the guy a friendly PM and ask him to chill. seems easier on the nervous system than getting tensed up about it and wouldn't publically embarrass him/her.

notice the absence of a smiley face anywhere here...

Agreed Jim, this could have easily been taken care of by PM, either to the poster in question or a staff member.

Well, SOMEONE needs to. I remember I used to see several go unanswered. Nothing worse than a new member getting no reponse at all. I've also noticed new guys who ask a question that others seem to be annoyed about, get no reply, or almost worse, one - and then after a while, that person never posts again.
Perhaps the guy answering the intros has nothing better to do with his time. Maybe he wants to run up his count (kind of like posting "looking good so far" in the constructive comments over and over...) Or, imagine the possibility- he genuinely wants to welcome new members. I don't care what his motives are. In the grand scheme of things that I have to worry about, it rates about a -3.

But if you read his bio he is retired now.

So plenty of free time on his hands now.

Agree that alot of new comers posts go unanswered but if the intro was originally posted 2 months ago.....come on! That particular day was over the top!

would you like to introduce yourself and have everybody just ignore you , its good manners when someone says hello to say hello back, or maybe just remove the intro section altogether.

I try to answer every introduction, however I am not beyond admitting that I miss some, time constraints and looking for a specific thread can make you overlook the introduction. I do feel though that answering every introduction from the last X number of months with a copy and paste reply is not going to make someone feel welcome, that said each to their own after all it does not do any real harm.

I don't think that it needs any more emphasis that an introduction post warrants an answer, if only to say Hi, and make somebody feel welcome. To answer this many post however, in one session, including some from several months ago, does only serve one purpose. It pushes current threads down, and of the 'latest posts' page. I don't think that was the deliberate intention here, but it is something to remember going forward.

Answering posts from the first week or so is fine, doing so for posts several months old, one was initially made in February, (and every one with the exact same message) is a little much. There were probably posts made by folks asking for help that were pushed back several pages because of spamming.

Not a single one of the introduction posts were initially ignored. They all had been answered with a welcome the day they were made and for about a week afterwards. On this site, it is rare that a person who makes an introduction post does not receive a welcome from several members within hours of the initial post (depending on time zone differences, holidays, etc.).

There is a big difference between someone whose introduction post is ignored and one that is months old with half a dozen responses being bumped back to the top of the latest post page. I stopped counting when I reached 20 posts that he made, all virtually the same message and some going back to April. If it meant that much to him, he should have said hello around the time the other 5 or 6 folks did when the initial poster made his introduction.

hmmmm, i have gone through a lot of the intro posts and i tend to agree with you, so is he being polite... spamming.... or trying to bump up his ranking...... whatever his motives you do have a good point.

FWIW, AFAIK responding to posts in the Introductions DG does not actually affect your post tally. I think the only post you get accredited for in that particular DG is your own introductory post.

It's actually really quick and easy, if you click on a person's profile and click the "My forum Posts" link, it will post a page of your latest posts along with the first few lines of your post. It took just 2 clicks to see this information.

On that day, the entire page was his responses to introductions with the same message, just the name changed. Second page of the link was more of the same.

I counted 20 posts on the first page, but there were more if I had scrolled down farther. I just stopped counting. Pat said he counted 45.

TMI!!! TMI!!!!

Been watching this thread with "interest." So, maybe a "bent Rivet" to award one for "He who hath posted the mostest" nonsensical nonsense?

Okay, that was probably wrong. But, I'm with most here who've voiced an opinion. Newbies show on a daily basis....and that's a good thing. Introductions are a really nice piece of Armorama (and all the Kitmaker sites). It's a good way for someone that's new to "all of us" to do a quick "Hey, howdy all, I'm here!" The welcome responses are needed....they do reinforce the "welcome" aspect of this uber friendly site....makes the new guys and gals feel more so welcome.

Now, in this case, 45 (or 51) "cut and paste" "welcomes" is silly. It's been pointed out that most (yea, I remember my "intro" post) introductions are responded to within hours, by some member, somewhere (again, as mentioned, "time zones!!"). This "blanket welcome" is not good...."cut and paste" in this case, when looked at as a whole, is really counter productive. Yep, does drop the latest "Hello's!" to the bottom of the page, if not to the next page. How about the newbie that posted right in the middle of this "mass Hi?" Did it immediately get dumped to page 2? Probably. Do you look at page 2 of the intro's? I usually don't. (Oh, and I do not imply or otherwise suggest I respond to "Hello's." Some? Yes. All? No).

In my opinion, the "add insult to injury" is the "cut and paste." Good gawd, if you're going to leave a "welcome to our site" message, make it sound as if it has some modicum of "personal" to it. These posts equate to "Hi, welcome, have a nice day, see ya 'round."

Mmmmmm.

So, there's my take. Whip me with the proverbial "noodle," but when you welcome someone to the site, one should "really" welcome them!

Off the soapbox (Jim S, been asking for TWO years for a "soapbox" emoticon. C'mon! You ken dooo eeet!!)

Mike, out.
