Damon,
You need the Osprey title "Modelling Waffen SS Figures" by Calvin Tan. The book is inexpensive, & contains patterns of the 5 most common SS camouflages, also tips on painting & shadowing camo, through the building of 5 pieces.

Hi, I'm no expert but just painted my first camo uniforms that you can see in the Russian Forum titled "JS-2 in Berlin" or look at the photos in my profile. Here's a blurp of colors I used:
The smock is the Spring pattern from the reversible types worn by infantry and SS. I could have gone with the latter "Pea" pattern though. I painted the smocks with Vallejo acrylics: US tan-earth, US dark green, German Camo Dark Green and Camo Bright green. I used white to lighten some of the greens.
I went by the 1/48 Tamiya box and a WWII book I have that has pics in color of actual worn uniforms to get the pattern. I started with the brown base, then dk green, then the others.

Hi Damon,
Calvin Tan's book is very good it has helped me considerably. The article that Rudi has linked is also very good.
What helps me is to have a few photos of the pattern to hand when painting the camo as I find myself getting carried away quite easily.
Thanks,
Phil.
