Like most modellers in the UK, I began, when I was 11, with the Airfix Spitfire (the old BTK one) and then built aircraft for several years. I used to get the Airfix Magazine monthly (when it was quarto size) and became interested in tanks, even scratchbuilding some. I built these for several more years and then became interested in Historex Napoleonic plastic soldiers. After a sojourn with Zinnfiguren and Warhammer products I recently came back to 1/72 tanks. I am glad I did, I have never experienced the satisfaction I get when finishing one of these little models with any of the other types of modelling. Also I have never finished so many models. Here lies the attraction, I think, it is the ability to have a finished item in a relatively short space of time. One that is well detailed and can be enhanced to quite a high degree if so desired. Coming back to Braille Scale after around 40 years(!), I was amazed to find a vast amount of kits of all countries and all eras available, this is truly a 'Golden Age' for Braille Scale.

Just randomly found this old thread and figured I'd bump it and ask: this has changed much in the last two years? As someone trying to find his way into the hobby I'm starting out with 1/72 kits for simplicity, and my only contact with other modelers being on these forums, I feel pressure to get into the 1/35 scale builds, but that could be totally imagined...
still take it very seriously ... still into revell kits like the newish german 88mm .... the biggest disappointment is the lack of modern armour

Hi guys
Guess I must be older than the average punter as, back in the sixties when I switched from ships (well 4 foot destroyers were a bit big to put in your kitbag and fly off to the other end of the world) there were hardly any 1/72 vehicle models (if any) so I have been making 1/76 ever since. I have reluctantly ventured into 1/72 of late because of the wonderful variety of vehicles of many nationalities, but maintain my British collection in 1/76. Not many British softskins in 1/72 (OK IBG). Have to confess I did once stick the first Tamiya 1/35 Chieftain together to see if I could downscale it to 1/76, but space problems have kept me in Braille Scale ever since. Besides, I like the little ones!
Did you know there is an entire magazine, published in France, but with dual French/English text, devoted to nothing but Braille Scale? Try googling Minitracks. And the guy asks if anyone is serious about Braille Scale!
