Intermediate painting stage. I sprayed White Ensign Russian Tank Green for base coat and modulated it using shades of green from Gunze range. After that gloss seal was applied, followed by wash and rusty spots done with oil paint. Faded out spots are imitated using mix of Tamiya XF-49 and XF-57, in about 3-2 proportion, which also served for dry brush application. After that I tried to make anti-radiation applique stand out by use of oils and enamel, which didn't look right, so I cleaned it up and sprayed fine coat of Tamiya XF-49 and XF-10 in equal portions and dry brushed the panels(this time using light dust pigment).
That's all for now.

If you were wondering why is this build taking so long then here is your answer:

Thank you, Sebastian, but to be honest I can't shake off the feeling that something is missing. I chose to make it one of the training battalion vehicles, so the end result is likely to be very messy. And yes there will be feature article once the model is finished.

Buratino is just newer SP designs set I've decided to bash with Hobbycraft T-72 I've had in my stash for a while. It's pretty straight forward project, but the work is slow because of T-80U which is being rebuilt.

Really??
I wanted to place a figure on tank's exterior having casual pose, but found none for sale. Well, more to add to scratch building list:-X

Looks good George. I especially look forward to seeing what the tanker ends up looking like.

Just finished sculpting it. That was first and last time I built a figure using epoxy putty

The tank itself is now completely done. I'm proceeding with painting of the tanker figure slowly, figure modeling has been completely untouched realm for me til now. Also, there are financial constraints (need to prioritize for a while).

Two failed weatherings and almost two years after work began, I finally have completed this build. The shots below are final unless you find something that needs to be redone, added, whatever.

Great work George !

I'll use your build as a reference for my T-64B, it's an awesome job !

The skirts looks great ,as does the dirt, and the various oil stains

One very minor thing ...... the RH driving wheel looks very green compared to everything else.

It may just be my eye but has that been weathered ?

Hi George,

I like the look and color of your tracks.... they're very much like the images I've been looking at.

What color's and method do you use ?

Cheers

Very nice George! You're officially my new hero! You're doing so many fantastic modern russian armour builds!

I notice you have one of those books on the T-64, did you get that via avia press? I ordered and paid already for a T-90 book from Avia in he same range as yours and I still have yet to receive it after more than a month, I have also had no replies to my emails to them either.

If you used them did you encounter any problems with them? In my blog someone said they had to wait 6 months for their book! I hope that isn't the norm!

Thanks, Paul. Good catch, they both got rotated with weathered parts hidden under skirts.

First page of this blog should have a picture of two with base layers on tracks and tank itself. If it's phased out by host than this is how I do it:
1.Primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000
2. Generous coat of Tamiya X-18 Semi Gloss Black
3. Lightly thinned FX-49 Khaki sprayed onto regions which would experience least amount of friction/contact with ground etc
4. Mr Color 46 Gloss Clear to seal the water soluble tamiya paints and prevent diffusion with pigment+white glue mix.
5. Mr Color 182 Flat to make surface more abrasive so that freshly applied pigments stay where they should.
6. Mixed white glue and pigment(s) (in my case MiG Euro Earth) and added small amount of water.
7. Applied mixture above with wide fuzzy brush in long strokes along the length of the track
8. Applied Mr Color 182 again and lightly brushed inner faces of track links with CMK's dusty earth. Regions where tracks are in contact with wheels were brushed with crushed 2HB graphite. 2HB pencil was used to give worn metal effect to the raised details.

I bought it on ebay some time ago, good pics but really soft, tearing prone paper. Too bad, no one told you about aviapress and their sale practices before you opted to buy from them. They are just like modelpoint.us, sometimes they ship right away but usually it can take months before you even hear from them. Their prices are insane too, 780USD for Amodel's jets??? I paid less for my first car!

Thanks George !

I've used Gunze Burnt metal on my T-72A tracks. I'm applying Washes. and then pigments.

I'll try your method next time - it looks good !

Thanks George! Well you live and learn I guess!

The book was okay actually not too expensive, I just had no idea that their customer service would be so bad. I've sent them a few emails recently and I haven't had a single reply. I definitely wont use them again.

HI George !

How did you finish the road wheel rims ?

Did you leave them base coat prior to weathering or did you give them a bare steel finish (seeing they are all steel) ?

Cheers

Aluminum, the wheels are made from aluminum alloy. I sprayed Alclad Dark Aluminum lacquer on entire road wheels and covered them with maskol fluid prior spraying green coats.

Great build and nice details on this!
Yes, the side-skirts look fantastic... also the weathering!

I also finished my snow-dio some days ago - after more than one year building, add parts and repair a broken wheel.

greetings...
Soeren
