Hi gang! :-)
I´m planning to built a Tamiya TIGER I, but the problem is, it´s the 70´s old model
So I´d like to know if some of old boys around here could dig out some modeling magazine that bring a feature about how to correct and to improve this old mold kit, I know that there is something, out there....
Thanks on advance...
Cheers

I will look in my old Military Modeler magazines. They had lots of articles about the old Tamiya kits during their hayday. Of course they weren't "old" Tamiya kits back then.

Lot of work though, the newer Italeri Tigers are not that bad and are cheap.

what do you mean old boys? Some of us, like the better wines, improve with age...

Apart from that I'll take a look as well, you youngsters and your German armor, when I was a boy.........Jim #:-)

Found the first article, Kursk Tiger from the Military Modeler magazine dated March 1989. Another article is on making a Desert Tiger in North Africa from the same magazine dated December 1991.

Snail mail is most likely the best option. I've had articles e-mailed to me and usually they don't turn out so well.

Hi Paulo...Great to see someone try to do something with this old kit ....I had the pleasure of seeing one built by Arthur Seluka(owner of Dioart) at a show here a few weeks ago...He told me it was the old kit ..I was floored...He did a great job on it..So it can be done..If you want to perk it up a bit ..you should look for the old P/E from On The Mark...it was made for this kit especially...
I see I'm not the only one who has kept all those old Military Modeller magazines...I guess I have to blame that Magazine for the passion I still have for modelling...I bought my first one in 1976...still have it !! (pretty banged up..I must have drooled over it so much back then)I then pretty well bought every issue up to the end....Wow how things have changed since then.(got ever FineScale since day one too) I guess I am old ....ugh!

I agree with Sabot, the Italeri Tiger I is not so bad kit and it´s very cheap. Here is a pair of links with photographs and coments about the construction and some minor modifications.
The first one is for a Early Tiger and the second one for a Late Tiger (both Italeri).

Paulo,
As stated above, see if you can hunt down the On-the-Mark PE for the Tiger kit. Also, you might want to add a Jordi Rubio barrel, a correct set of roadwheels (MB models in white metal or Modelkasten in plastic) and a set of tracks (Minicraft makes a good cheap set of early track, non-workable). I did one of these for my uncle a couple of years back (he's a mechanical engineer) and people still ask him about it. Best of luck.
Regards,
Georg

The Academy and Italeri Tigers are pretty nice. Academy sells a version of its Tiger with no interior (the interior isn't very accurate anyway) for about $25 or $30. Italeri Tigers are even less than that. The Academy full version Tigers can be obtained for $40 and include PE, an interior, and Individual track links in the box if you get the right version.

You really have a wide range of choices for the Tiger due to its' popularity. You can do one of the new tooled Tamiya Tigers OOTB for about $30 - $35 on line or on Ebay. A set of tracks and a new Barrel are more than that, and PE sets run between $10 - $50 for the Tiger. (I know, I am a slave to this stuff. I have Tamiya Tigers and Panthers with extras that I have well over $100 each invested)

The biggest problems with the old kit (besides a total lack of accuracy) is the molded on cables, They look awful. Like any kit, it can be made to look nice, but my advice is to get a different kit if you care about accuracy and don't want to spend a fortune.

HTH,

Scott

Are you in a location where kits are difficult to obtain?

Hi Scott,
Well my point is: I bought this model a long time ago, when it was the only game to play, now I feel kind of guilt if I don´t build it... also I think is worth to build every model, if I can modify it to an update standard, I can live with that
I got the Academy indi tracks....
Well, as quoted above, the models are dificult and expensive when you can lay your hands on them....
Cheers

Don't feel compelled to try to build the kit just because you bought it. Find a young person who would love to try to model a 1/35 Tiger tank. It would be perfect for him/her. (I gave away my Tamiya Panther A and older Tiger 1 kits in this fashion). I recently helped my six year old daughter build the Tamiya M5A1 Stuart. It was fun.
