Has anybody built this kit? Is it worth building?

It's like the only US halftrack in 1/48 scale.

Yeah, but is it any good? I know some of the Bandai kits are better than others, is this one of their better ones?

Oh, never mind. I'm not gonna pay $40+ for it.

I've built the M13 twin .50 cal ADA version of it, but not the M3A1. I wouldn't pay $40 for it. You could get two of the newer Tamiya kits for that amount of money.

I read this on Track 48: the overall width of the vehicle is one scale foot too great, or 1/4 ". Apparantly the Bandai researchers included the width of the side storage racks in the body measurements making the vehicle that much too wide. If you can't tolerate that, you would have to cut out a 1/4" wide strip from the center of the vehicle from the front bumper to the rear and match up the two halves. I don't know if anyone has tried that, but it sounds like quite a feat, and the possibility of ruining an otherwise perfectly good model. If I could find this kit for $40 I think I would build it as is.

Tamiya kits no longer go for $20 odd dollars each. Their new (Ford or Chevy) US staff car goes for about US $32, making it a very expensive little toy.
