Hi everybody,
I've finally finished the build of my first model since I restarted modelling again (after having stopped around the age of 15). I've taken quite a long time to build this E-100. During the construction phase I tried out a number of techniques and gradually upgraded the model a bit. The IR and cleaning rod container are from a Voyager update set for the E-25. The commander's turret is from a King Tiger.

Buildwise it looks nicely done, clean build and the cupola does make a difference.
But with all E-100 kits, it's going to be interesting to see how they compare turret wise to the plans that will be in the upcoming PanzerTracts on the Maus and E-100 which features recently uncovered ACTUAL Krupp turretdesigns for the E-100.

Yep, can't hardly wait for that Panzer Tracts, I'm sooooo curious. And then the question will be how long it will take for a manufacturer to produce a kit with a more plausible turret.
I haven't decided on the color scheme yet. It will be the first time I use and airbrush + I need to do it somewhere else. I can't paint in the house since I have a five-month old daughter... I'm thinking oxi primer for the bottom end, and (dark?) green as a base with red brown (or oxi primer?) and a touch of yellow.

Nice looking build John, I like what you've done here.
Herbert, as has been stated numerous times on this forum and others, the Trumpeter turret won't compare at all, as it is TOTALLY mythical. It was the brain child of Michael Rinaldi, and Trumpeter was not the first company to copy his design. Here is a link to the original model:

Hi Mike,
I think Herbert is well aware of the fact that the Trumpeter turret is mythical. I believe he even repeatedly pointed that out in other posts. I think what Herbert means to say is that now we'll finally know what ideas they had for the actual E-100 turret. Up until now it was commonplace to ASSUME the Maus turret could be used, but I can't recall any real hard data.
Cheers,
John

I am indeed.
The plans of the E-100 in Spielberger's Spezialpanzer book had the Maus turret mated to the E-100.
I'll have to check on what that was based, perhaps simple conjecture on the side of Spielberger as with his Panther-II in 1944 with 88mm Schmalturm.
But isn't it truly amazing that 60+ years after the fact, finally we get the info on this? Isn't that just too remarkable?

Yes, it's a Jordi Rubio barrel for a Jagdtiger. You'll need to modify the gun mantlet to install it, but it's not that difficult. I guess any Jagdtiger gun would do.

Thanks for the info. I will have to get a couple. I have one on the work bench wating tobe painted. The other on is going to have a full enterior. I find the turret sets to far back on the turret ring. It needs to be moved fored about 1/4 ich. The Turret rig in the hull is right, The ring in the turret is wrong.

I've upgraded my E-100 a bit further with an Aber upgrade, a spare Kügelblende and some more tweaks:

John,
Been following your build and I like how it is coming along. First command version of the E100 that I have seen - nice concept! Like your weld joints, casting numbers, KT commanders cupola, tools layout, night vision equipt and armor texturing. Enjoyed the slide show too!
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your build.

Thanks for your support Eddy!
I made a final modification this morning. Now I'm off to the model store for a Mr Surfacer 1000 spraycan. This afternoon I plan to spray the basecoat.

For the armor texturing: I took my Dremel, put in a rounded burr and bounced it over the surface. Then I sanded it down a bit. Next I applied fairly think glue (UHU) and used a hard square brush to tapper the surface. Then another round of sanding.
