Hi all

The Sherman campange has ended and I wasn't able to finish mine, so I will continue @ the Constructive Feedback.

I want to build this M4A4 sherman

With the following things

Base Kit: Dragon 6035 M4A4 Sherman.
Turret: Trakz TX 0074 Sherman turret early
Suspention: AFV Club VVSS Suspention with dragon weels
Tracks: ModelKasten SK-45 M4 T54E1 tracks (still looking for duckbills )
PE: ABER and other spare parts

And some other scrachbuild and parts from other kits

This is how far I am at the moment:

Meanwell I've replaced the armored turret radio with a scratchbuild with a normal turret bin

The modelkasten tracks are a real pain in the #$*^% but they look great.

I hope you like it.
Comments are welcome

Martin-- that is a beautiful construction job. I have that kit laying around and your work certainly has advanced my thoughts about building it. Please continue to let us know how you make out.

I barely got started on mine.

Nice work so far. Are you going use the interior parts you show on your photo?

Hi Martin,

Hey Martin,
FYI - In case you didn't know, that's a Sherman V of the Governor General's Horse Guards of the 5th Canadian Armoured Division driving through Arnhem on April 15, 1945.
You didn't show or mention what markings you were going to use but Ultracast make a set of decals for the GGHG Shermans:

http://www.ultracast.ca/products/D35/017/default.htm

If you look carefully, you can see that the bow MG is pointed at the camera man's position.
The tank crews must have been "twitchy" driving through Arnhem that day.
Cheers

That is a great start and a darn nice job on those Tracks.

Well at least I am not the only one that never finished his Sherman for the campaign.

Should of been longer.

So finally an other update:

I put AFV club duckbills on my MK tracks. 87 links x 10 parts per link = 870 parts for one track... And I still have to do the other one

But the look great.

Good job on the beast.

Have the same kit also.

But I am not an insane person so will use the kit glue tracks.

Do you have the one with the Rockets on the side?

Gloat I do.

Hats off on the build and MK tracks you are a person of Patience.

So all M4A2's went to the British- Russians?

Hey Jeff,
A few were kept in the U.S. for training purposes but most of the M4A2's were given over to Lend Lease as they were diesel powered and the U.S. preferred gasoline fueled vehicles.
The Marine Corps operated them since the U.S. Navy supplied their fuel.
The M4A2 was actually preferred by the British and Russians since it didn't "brew up" as easily as the high octane, aircraft fueled M4 and M4A1 Shermans.
The M4A3 with the Ford GAA engine was the preferred version of the U.S. Army
The M4A4 used 5 Continental car engines tied together and were mainly supplied to British, Commonwealth, French and other Allied units.
Cheers

The M4 and M4A1 both used 9 cylinder Continental radial engines. The M4A4 used five Chrysler engines mated around a common crankcase. Later Matt.

DOOOOOH ..... That's what I get for answering a question when I'm away from my reference library !!
I meant to say the M4A4 used an A57 30 cylinder, 4 cycle multi-bank gasoline engine by CHRYSLER, not the 9 cylinder Continental radial engine used in the M4 and M4A1.
Good save Matt !!
Cheers

No problem. I'm a automotive service tech and I'm just facinated by the A57 multibank. You really don't see that kind of thing these days. Looking foreward to the day I can see one for real, not just a picture in a book. Later, Matt.

Hi Martin,

Just noticed you have the cleaning rods on the rear LHS. The Mk V didn't carry the rods externally, where the rods are would normally be a tarpaulin. Also on the front the sunken weld seems in the kit should be raised ones if I remember correctly.

Cheers

Thanx for the comments.
I almost finished my second track and I've got enough duckbills to cover it. I have to say they were a real pain in the @$%

The tools will be replaced with Resin tools
