Cool project.
There are a couple more shots of this rig in Allied-Axis No. 3. You picked the wrong markings for the tractor, if you are trying to duplicate the scene. The rig was from the 464th Ordnance Company, 9th Armored Division, and should have the leggy pin-up girl on the front sides of the tractor.

Hey Ed,
Really looks the money, mate - well done
I really love seeing a good pic bought to (minature) life
Bobs' right there are a couple more pics of this rig in A-A #3

- Have you thought about getting some of the Verlinden US clothing set and draping bits on the front of the Panther?
- one thing I find that many modellers never include in their vignette/dioramas are bit of clothing (jackets, tank suits, overcoat/great coats) etc.
Once aagain looks great - keep posting - if ever I can help with ref pics don't hesitate to give me a shout.

Have got one of these dragon wagons half built myself and am thinking of doing something similar with an old sherman kit.
Nice work, be interested to see the finished peice.

ED,
I suspect that the "slewing" of the Panther during towing probably has more to do with the state of the road pavement (mud covered, paved, and at a reasonable grade), than the tow bar arrangement itself.
Just my take on the photo's.

Anybody else notice how bald the left outside tire is on that M26 in the pic?

That would be a cool touch to add to the dio. Looks pretty good so far. Thanks for sharing. "Q"

thanks everyone for the kind words and tips. the most i can do with the worn out wheels is to replace it with resin..sand them to the right wear.. i'll ask my fellow modellers top help me with this. right now i'm doing some work on the panther..dressing it down and dressing it up with what ever material i can use for the parts. check this out....

Shot with
Canon PowerShot A650 IS at 2008-09-21
made some cuts and chips on the wheels..i guess i over did it..

Shot with
Canon PowerShot A650 IS at 2008-09-21
taking out all the pioneer tools and spare tracks...

replaced the plastic tow cable with copperwire...a 6 strand wires looks good. replace the left fender with a scratch-built from metal foils..

Shot with
Canon PowerShot A650 IS at 2008-09-21
took the end parts and glued them on the wires..

Shot with
Canon PowerShot A650 IS at 2008-09-21
i've noticed one was placed on the rear deck..probably used by the recovery crews...

Shot with
Canon PowerShot A650 IS at 2008-09-21
the other fender was also in bad shape..sharpnel hole can be seen. i used an engraver tool to thin-down the fender and punch holes on them.

Shot with

one thing about the pictures was they didn't show the other side...this i can do my own detailings..made a cannister from metal foils..probably bend or punch holes just to add more on the panther..

The sliding slats on the Panther engine deck grills were seen on the right side only--they were there to regulate airflow through the oil cooler. The rectangular vents on the left for the engine coolant radiator were not regulated.

ok and thanks gerald. all the while i thought those grille were open to keep the engine deck area well ventilated. thanks again.
did the crew used camou netting to attach plants and tree leaves on the sides and turret? the picture show camou attached on the panther but seem too thin to be plants or vegetations of sort. thanks for sharing. ed

Ed-- fantastic workmanship. The Panther is superb. What colors did you put on the M-26? I am interested in the shading effect you got on the cable systems...great!
Thanks

An incredible piece of work Ed! Your attention to detail and skill at creating it is awesome!
A couple questions: is the foil you are using lead foil or something similar? are the cable ends scratched as well? did you use the same wire on the winch drums on the M-26?
If it weren't for law enforcement and physics I would be unstoppable!

An amazing job so far!
I think the damage to the road wheels is done perfectly, not overdone at all. What did you use for the camo netting that is all bunched up? How did you get it so compact?
Makes me want to build the Dragon Wagon I've had on the shelf for 8 years!
