Trumpeter have just sent us more images of their Centauro in 1/35th scale which allows us to show the ACTUAL model rather than the CAD Images. The updated story can be seen:

Thanks for the pics Jim but I still can't understand why Trumpeter do not start with the Italian version. Anyway, another original model to get.

Good question, but it's still a "must have" kit! Will go well with a M1128.... Maybe do it in US Army colors? They borrowed 16 of these from Italy to evaluate the Stryker.

Great Version
Seen the vehicle in RL at Eurosatory and it is really cool looking with such low profile.

I would suggest that they chose to start with the Spanish Centauro so that people who already own the Model Victoria resin kit of the Italian version will have an excuse to buy the kit! After they get people hooked, they will roll out the Italian versions. At that point, I would guess that there will be a bunch of resin Centauro kits on eBay!

Cheers - Dan

but, the box-art is based on a Centauro taking part in the annual 'Dia de las Fuerzas Armadas' (Armed Forces Day) Parade and is seen rolling down one of the principal streets of Madrid (La Castellana).

Good idea for a diorama - you can model a crowd of Armed Forces family members loudly booing and catcalling the 'Dear Leader' (the president of the government) which has now virtualy become an official part of the proceedings every year.

As a Frigate Captain gets paid around the same as a Taxi-Driver, you'll understand

Like Jim stated about the box art from a Centauro at a public parade....that may have been the best place for Trumpeter to get detailed walk around images......and it was a Spanish version.....so that is what was produced first.

Good idea for a diorama Jim......but maybe a rebel Centauro crew that has taken off to enjoy some Sangria and the pleasant sights on a Malaga beach might be more fun?

Mike,

It probably will still be much cheaper from Lucky Model or somewhere else in Asia. But I do want (need??) one of these lol.

Yeah, I know, I'm just hoping to keep my credit card "clean" for now. Having said that I'll still probably end up ordering one from somewhere over there.

Cheers,
Mike

Interesting - if you look at the stuff in their New Kits section under Trumpeter about the Centauro on PMMS, while the built-up kit pics show a Spanish Centauro, the box art pic (at least, I assume it's a box art pic) shows an Italian vehicle.

Strange things are afoot - either that or they're doing both kits in parallel and will just wait a while to unleash the Italian version.

Good looking box art, or is it an actual photo?

Only on the image on PMMS. The other box-art images show the Spanish Version.

However, and this is where it does look confusing - Terry's image on PMMS shows the Italian Version.

As to release date, I got a confirmation that the Centauro will be available in the States from February2009...

Ha, I've just pre-ordered my Trumpeter Spanish Centauro! I can hardly wait to hold it in my hands! Trumpeter sure has come a long way from where they started. Now if someone would cast us some Spanish tank crewmen and stowage for it, that would be great. And how about a set of cavalry pennons for the antennae? Maybe I can print my own.
