Wow, huge this will turn out to be! You could really turn this into a visually stunning diorama.
Good job on the railway so far, but remember to extend the tracks to the edges of the diorama base. The damaged building is coming along well.
Take care and get well.

Just Thinking about the structure may be you should use cardboard (the one with foam inside) instead of wood for the pavement.
it will be lighter.
Just my 2 cents

Woodland Scenics makes an excellent, easy to apply concrete finish. I've used it for garage dioramas before and the results are most excellent, especially the texture. I get the best effect painting it on with a sponge/foam brush.Clean up is with soap and water. It's not very expensive which is nice. I did an 18" X 24" floor and used about a half a bottle. It took about 3 coats to get the right coverage and color. I painted it over white plastic sheet primed with standard red oxide type primer. It was surprisingly durable for a water based finish. They also make an asphalt finish as well.
Martyn: What did you use for the ballast under the tracks? I'm following this build with interest, especially the T-34 recovery vehicle. Did you use any source photos for it that you could refer me to? I have a soft spot for recovery vehicles in general.

wow Martyn that diorama is looking swell i too am building a berlin diorama but in 1/48 since it's my first attempt so i thought i'd start off with something small it's gonna be composed of a small corner ruin done by plus model and it'll have a t-34/85 model 1944 w/flattened turret (hobbyboss) with soviet troops riding on the back and to finish off the scene i'm going to have some germans hiding in the ruins waiting in ambush. so far i've got the building done (not painted yet) and i've begun building and painting the t-34 i hope to get some pics of it after christmas once i've got my digital camera and my pc at home is back up and running
