Have to agree - this'll be big and powerful. The sheer vertical nature is already eye catching.
What are your plans for the pillars, are they going to be 'part' of the diorama and look like brick pillars or will they be 'invisible' supports.
What might be cool is to make the bottom sort like a shadow box. Boxing in everything except for a round/oval opening in the front.

Scott the back and sides will be boxed off and uses as walls with a bit cut out for the track yes the pillars will be used as pillars where i will brick them up and screw them into the base.
thanks Bob and Jesper
i need photos and some ideas if anyone would be so kind!

If I was you I will add the entrance to connect the upper part of the dio and the lower part this will give you a nice story to tell
like the crew from german armor that felt into the subway tunnel trying to escape using the U-bahn network and some russians trying to hunt them. And in order to give a better impression of symmetry using the ground level as the reference a destroy building will be a nice addition a brick building using the Carlos/Blockaus technique, then you can even connect the cave to the subway.
Possible title: No heaven below or Six feet under
You like it ???

Martyn
I do reminder that plastruct has such think, you also can checkout their industrial kits very useful like ladder and I and H beam, you need to check to railroad references here big time.
Also some 1/35 rats to decorates the tunnel, subway tunnels are full of these beasts.

Martyn, I just checked your gallery and it's apparently the first time you start a huge project. Well it's a bit like running a Marathon innit? save some breath for harder times, try to keep focused and good luck too

Martyn,
Sorry to hear about yor kidney problems - hope that gets fixed real soon. Doesn't sound too pleasant, but at least you've got the perfect hobby to help you relax and recuperate.
There was a superb diorama doing the rounds a few years ago that was very similar to the sort of thing you're planning here. I saw it "live" at Euromilitaire in (I think) 2004 and it took my breath away. The underground section was even dimly illuminated for full effect.
I'm pretty sure it may have featured in the modelling press as well, so when I get time I'll have a rummage and see what I can find. I also may (or may not) have taken a couple of pics of it at the time. I'll have to go back through my own picture archive to check.
Basically it was a split-level Berlin U-Bahn diorama with (IIRC) Germans emerging from underground with the Soviets up top. I can't for the life of me remember who it was built by - maybe someone else reading this will remember it?
