Nicholas, this one is looking very good too. Do you build anything other than Tigers? Would like to see your work on other subjects too. But keep going. Nice job. Send me a pm on where you got that kit from Voyager for the Mid production Tiger. The one I asked you to photograph for me. I think you said it was AAA something or other. Do they have a web address? Thanks.

Hello James. yes, I do build other subjects. Check out my webshots webpage at http://community.webshots.com/user/BruccaNYC I bought the Voyager kit on ebay from a vender called AAAmodels. http://stores.ebay.com/AAA-Model-Hobbies

Thanks for your kinds words and comments

Nicholas,

I have been silently following your projects (Tiger's ) and have learned a great deal already from you. Your builds are very inspirational and informative. You always manage to place items (such as the montex masks) that you use on your builds during your in process photos that give us the viewer an idea of how to achieve some of the same results with our builds that you achieve!

Again your latest project is turning out beautifully. Hope that my builds will turn out have as good as yours do! Thanks for sharing and presenting us with some very excellent photo views of your fantastic builds. Can't wait to see the final results on this one!

-Eddy

Eddy, thank you very much. i try i try! I learned alot from this forum so i think I should contribute too, to keep the flow of communication and cooperation contining freely.

Many days have passed, but little progress made! I shaded the chipped areas where the Zimmerit flaked off. I attached the tracks and the spare ones too. Lastly, I painted hatch access areas a primer red for an artistic affect.

What’s next? I am not sure if I want to add a wash to the Zimmerit areas. What do you all think? Should I or does it look ok?

I will also chip the hatches and who knows what else.

All comments welcome

I would add the wash. Dust and dirt would naturally find its way into all those nooks and crannies

Great build by the way!!!

i only have one little wiggle. This is a late tiger, and to my 15 year old knowledge, all late tigers were painted panzer yellow out of the factory. Zimmerit was field applied and would flake off easily, possibly showing off the factory basecoat. What im saying is, shouldnt the chips be yellow, and not panzer gray?

Thanks for commenting Darryl and Jon

I think that zimmerit was applied at the factory, I have photos somewhere of a late Panther A being constructed in a factory with zimmerit already being applied before the tank was painted; therefore, since both were types of tanks were produced at the same time, i just assume the same is for the tiger. Also, photos of Tigers with chipped zimmerit appear to have a light grey color coat below the zimmerit, this might be a primer coat or zimmerit residue. i really don't know though

Hey Nicholas,
Hate to point this out so late in the game but I'm not sure if that colour is actually light grey.
I don't think either Dunkelgrau (aka Panzer Grey) or Dunkelgelb (aka Panzer Yellow) were ever used as primers by German factories for their vehicles.
I may be mistaken but I believe that German vehicles were painted primer red during construction and then painted Dunkelgrau (pre February 1943) and Dunkelgelb (post February 1943).
Zimmerit was ordered to be applied in December 1943 so, theoretically, if PY was ever used as a primer, your late model Tiger would have PY peeking out, not PG.

Of course it could be bare metal but I think the Germans would always prime prior to painting, at least until things got hairy towards the end of the war
Otherwise your Tiger I looks great !!
Cheers

Well, I am finally done. I chipped the Tiger with AV Vallejo paints, dusted with Mig Pigments, pin washes done with Mig Brown Wash and streaks using oils.

looks really great nick
i think you got the chipped zimm the right colour.i broke a loose peice of a king tiger at a tank museum once and it was definietley grey underneath. just one small thing i would have liked to see was some dust and dirt on the side of the hull just behind the drive sprocket.but apart from that pretty darn good

all the best
