Hi, finally gonna call my braille SAS jeep a done deal. Here are some pics of the finished model:
The model was shot with a Nikon D80 on a tripod. Light source was a big open window to one side and big white paper envelope bounce cards. For the close ups, a lens extender was attached to the basic kit lens.
You can see the WIP progress thread here:
http://armorama.com/forums/66277&page=1
For those of you following the thread, I finally added a camo net roll and a Thompson SMG to the back of the jeep. A tiny sun dial was added to the dash.
I also added some grass to the base and dusted the model with pastels to tie it all together.
I'm not adding the dust trails for now. I think its time to move on to the next project, after all its been 3 years since I first started this
Hope you like it.

Great work Sonny, it is easy to forget just how small this model is.

Thanks Darren!
I just realised I posted this in the Armor/AFV section when in fact I meant to post it on the Braille Scale section. Is there any way to move it there?
Cheers,
Sonny
p.s. I got your message regarding the build article. I'll get in touch with you asap.

Great job. The first image does not reflect the small scale at all. Well done. Great action, nice base.

Sonny,
Fantastic and absolutely outstanding! "RAT PATROL" Wow what a treat! Those figures are awesome. Three years in the making . . . an artist must work at his or her own pace!
Really like how you have placed the jeep in mid air jumping over a sand dune. Your figures are super and give your totally detailed jeep an air of extreme action and motion. You could almost hear that motor roaring and the weapons blasing! Yes, as Chis mentions "It's way cool!

Hi Sonny,
What a superb composition! The tension and dynamic action is well portrayed. Your work on such a small vehicle is commendable. Your dedication paid-off in this project. BTW, which Carorama vehicle did you get the wheels from?
Again congratulations!

Thanks again for the compliments!
Eddy - loved your vietnamese T-54, any new stuff? btw, i dont recall watching 'rat patrol' back in the days but did come across an episode of it on youtube while researching for this project. Great show!
RJ - I know I mentioned using carorama tires for the jeep, you can see my attempts at making copies of this on the May 07 2006 post. But I ended up using modified versions of airfix's 1/72 scale jeep (the one with the trailer and disc on the front grille). I basically made copies of the outside and inside half of the wheels, sandwiched some sheet plastic to widen the tires a bit and offset the thread pattern. Then made casts in resin. The airfix jeep wheels are really the only way to go (except maybe cmk's resin wheels which i havent seen). There are only 3 problems with the airfix wheels which are minor in this scale.
1. The thread pattern is aligned to each other, it should be offset.
2. The hub of the tire are the same length for the front and back - the front one should be a bit longer.
3. (I might be wrong on this) but feels like the airfix wheels were on the narrow side. (I think I made mine too thick though, but I can live with it ) .

The Jeep is very impressive. I am amazed by your figures, I have problems getting my 1/48 figures faces to have that much contrast. Excellent diorama, well thought out and it feels alive.
