Hopefully all works well with the pis.
I started this Tiger a while back.I thought I would try something different with the paint scheme. It will depict a Sturmtiger that was rushed to the western front without a new paintjob.[/img]

Sorry in advance if the pics don't show.

I like your idea. And your model, of course

Could please tell us / me how you achieved that nice silver effect on the ring with the gas holes on the barrel? It looks great.
And what I most like is the slogan, painted on the top of the fighting compartment. It's such a nice touch

ANd of course the question: What color did you use (and how?) to achieve the calk effect?
Thanks in advance.
P.s.: Pictures show properly.

Thanks guys,
Chris I used the tamiya kit.
Johannes the barrel ring was first painted with Model color 822 ss camo black, black oil wash.when dry I rubbed lead powder(no.2 pencil)on the ring with my finger.
The slogan was my wife's idea(she 's German). The white chalk is also from the wife. It's a Nagelweiss-Stift made by essence, try looking in Kaufhoff or Herti if there is one in your area.It is a white oil type pencil women use on there fingernails.
Hope this helps

Rob great job on a very interesting subject. Great job on the paintscheme. I have the last production Ferdinand. How did you get that red color? What are your secrets? Great job and thanks for sharing.

Rob,
Outstanding concept! This has to be the best Sturmtiger that I have seen yet!

Exactly as James stated: "How did you get that red color?" Please do tell ! Rob this is the finest rendition of red oxide primer on a German vehicle that I have ever seen. Could you explain your technique for all of us out here that are unable to achive the same look that you achived.

Like James, I too have the last production Ferdinand. I am currently putting together a factory fresh prototype Porsche vehicle that I would also like to display in red oxide primer. Would really appreciate any help you could give us.
Thanks for sharing your build and posting some very nice pics that really show off your attention to detail and painting skills.

Thank you all for your comments.
As far as the red-oxide primer color goes.i simply mixed flat red with small amounts of panzer gray and od green. Those are the three colors i used.just mix til you get the right color your looking for.The base color darkened slightly after the filters as washes were appllied, keep this in mind when mixing the primer color.
I hope this helps you guys.Good luck on your Ferdinand's and be sure to post some pics so i can see how they turn out.I'll be painting my ferdinand-Elephant tonight and will post some pics .

Very good work. It was interesting to see, to know that the Sturm was a recycled Tiger with a new upper hull made the mixed schemes "work". To fully appreciate the job you need to know the history -I like that.

Very nice build & paint-job, Rob.
Will definitely give your red oxide primer recipe (duly noted!) a try on a future late-war build. Thanks for sharing.

Man, imagine the crew that gets issued this thing! It looks great from a modeler's standpoint, but, if I was the potential crew for this thing, I'd be kinda upset!

Rob,
Thanks for the reply it is very much appreciated. Most definitly going to give your red oxide primer "recipe" (as Steve noted) a try on my current prototype Porsche tank project. And yes, as soon as I have completed my project I will post pics and will not be forgetting to credit you for the primer recipe inspired by your unique Sturmtiger. Just hoping that my effort on both the red oxide primer and Porsche vehicle will turn out half as good as the outstanding builds you've posted here on the constructive feedback forum.
Again, thanks so very much.

No, it looks correct. See how far in the road wheels are in this photo:

I think Johannes meant that the coloration and shading made the wheels seem "flat" rather than dimensional, not that they were positioned wrong.

It is different, and I too like it. Great paint work, and the chalk markings look great.
