Base painted and assembled for photographs. Its starting to come together at last. Definately the biggest job I have undertaken yet! It took many, many hours to get it here. But It was worth it. Doors and extinguishers and some small items are painted the same. Now its time to mask windows and doorways and start weathering.
Any tip, comments, suggestions or points of view would be very welcome!

Very nice clean build! The interior looks pretty busy. Did you have a lot of problems with this monster? Did you use AM parts on it? Can't wait to see it finished

Plastic,

this is awesome, now you make me wanna grab one and build it.....

Too many models, too damn small apartment to display them.

Question, the decals in the kit, are they for iraqi? or there is option for making it a soviet vehicle? Because I don't wanna make an Iraqi Scud. thanks.

Thanks for your nice comments guys! This is the most difficult kit i have built to date. Not because of the amount of parts, but the clean up of nearly every part, thick injection ports, big parts and also minute parts, and lots of ejector pin marks. Fit isnt 100% all the time either. Lots of filling, sanding, and even gaps so big, pieces of plastic card were used to fill the space. Milliput or filler was no good on their own. No AM was used. Built totally OOB except for little bits of plastic card here and there to fill gaps and to close off obvious areas where dragon didnīt bother ..... some of them in quite obvious places as well. It will stay OOB as well except for the hoses to the rocket launcher station. These are so obvious on the real thing they cant be left out!
The kit comes with an extra decal sheet for the Iraqi version. It also has the original with Russian, Czech, and Polish decals, so quite a few options. Dragon probably just released this again to cash in on the GW2....... fair play to them....... I was glad to buy this.
Storage space?? it is 383mm long and about 300mm high when rocket is up...... so it is quite the monster!
Was all the work and extra effort worth it? Definately. I enjoyed every moment of it!

Quite nice; but you'd bette add all the wires attached between launch table and rocket, I did it on mine and WOW, completly different...
You'll easily find pics on the web.
The decals ore for both Iraqi or Soviet version, but for the soviet one, you might need no tactical number... nor red star on it....
These where nearly never actually used....
4BO green (Tamiya TS-28), or new patern with black and sand are really better (my point of view) #:-)

Plastic, I have to hand it to you for just finishing this monster. It was one of those kits I couldn't wait to have, but man, what a build. Everything you said is true, fit, soft plastic, ejector pin marks, FIT... I have all the major subassemblies done but trying to make them fit on the chassis was such a pain I put it aside. It has been collecting dust for 5 years.
Great job on a crappy kit. You want to finish mine up?

Plastic----as I was viewing these pics I was thinking what a monster due to its obvious size and numerous parts, (with interior)----however after reading your follow up post it sounds like it was a "real monster" regarding fit and part clean-up.

So an early congrats on moving through what sounds like a very difficult and probably frustating build at times.

I have never seen this model so appreciation for showing the pics. Can't wait to see it finished.

Very good stuff!!

Steve

Nice work. I used Eduard interior detail on mine (cab parts only on the fret). Indeed, this was an exercise in frustration every step of the way. All those work stations with no decals to do instrument panels, either. I wound up adding a bunch of pacard and gauge decals just to give it somen life. The undercarriage is very weak in details that should be there and the main frame assembly has a wide open space that had to be covered with sheet stock.
To DML/Dragon's credit/blame, I belive they bought the mold from another company but didn't bother cleaning it up and got it out in time for the first Gulf War.
To those thinking of getting it, reread the posts. Be afraid, be very afraid! #:-)

The overall model looks nice but add more panel lines on the missile. This will make the model nicer

WOW... Wicked nice and very impressive! Only thing I can see to take issue with (and not that seriously) is the radio antenna... Maybe use some stretched sprue for the antenna and some fine gauge speaker wire for the matching unit coil in place of the kit one... And the thickness of the "whoopie light" over the driver's side looks twisted a bit and a tad too thick for the scale... Scratch or OOB? other than that, a fine build!!

Great job. I've got my eye on the ARII version of that kit. They also make a Patriot battery, so I'm thinking of doing a "Hunter - Killer" diorama.

I have a question for you guys! What is available for Iraqi figures? Is there anything that would suit?
My only other choice would be to have an American or UN inspection team checking it out. I definately want a few figures to add to this when finished. Any ideas?

Also thanks for all your comments. Much appreciated!

For my SCUD-B model I bought the old Kirin Iraqi SCUD Crew. I think you might be able to get it on eBay.

Very nice build indeed.... I am tempted by the kit myself but heard of the problems with it. Hmmm... we'll see

One other thing.. you could try and use fine noodles (no kiddin) for the hydraulic hoses. They take paint quite well and have approx. the right thickness.

I really like what you have done so far. My only comment would be to take a look at all the wheels. From the close-up pics you posted I can see that there is yellow paint on the tires (around rims) and black paint on the rims.

These wheels are only base painted. I sprayed them all black first. Then I made a quick foil template that sat on each one, and I sprayed the middle for ther hubs. The template was cut very quickly and I took no great care. This is what you see.
These wheels will have a wash around the rim to hide the overlap of paint and when the hub is washed and dry brushed, all of this should be gone.
The model is nowhere finished yet ....... just a progress report. But thanks for pointing this out anyway ......... thats the idea of the forum. Its funny what one can miss and others see it right away!
