This topic is pretty much self explanitory. Were Soviet stars ever on KV-2s? If they were on KV2s (which i beleive is highly unlikely) where were they placed?
if anyone knows the answer to this question please post an answer because i dont want to screw my Trumpeter KV-2 up.
(i'll hopefully be able to post some photos of what i've done so far soon)

Hi Dean
The only Soviet markings anyone has seen on KV-2s are air recognition ones on the turret roof/hatch (which show up very poorly since photos are taken from ground level) and a single example with a tac mark (4 in a diamond) which was discussed in this forum recently.

I've NEVER seen any images of them. One of the best sources for KV2 photos are those images which were taken by Germans during the initial stages of Barbarossa - which show virtually NO markings of any type.
Even the staged propoganda images of the KVs with slogans never seem to show the 'standard' Red Star - banners and exhortations to the happy workers yes, red stars, never...

lol, ok guys thanks. i was just asking because my Trumpeter KV-2 came with a decal sheet with a few Soviet stars and a slogan "For Stalin" (in Russian)
i suppose they were trying to make the kit better because they thought it looked bland. they didnt need to. its a brilliant kit, possibly the best i've ever made in all my 8 years of making planes and now tanks.

All the photos I've seen show the bins are the same colour as the rest of the tank.

Hi David in the total number of books and magazines in my Index so far and it stands at 75 I have never seen any form of slogan or Star on the side of the KV2 . The bins are as pointed out the same colour as Tank . Depending on which version of the KV 2 you are building the early pre war one had a different front to the later Wartime . It is all to do with the front girder and the number of pins holding it together pre war 17 on the top and front face making a total of 34 as agains the kit number . hope it helps cheers ian

Thanks for that guys. i accidentally painted the storage bins grey and then glued them on. i'll just pull them off and repaint them.
the trumpeter kit is, as i said above, brilliant, although i dont really see the point of putting decals and a full colour painting guide in the kit when the tank is painted entirely in green and has no markings. it does make the kit look prettier when you open it though.
