I've been asked to get hold of the dimensions of the suspension of the Valentine.

Areas needed are:

Dimensions of the Valentine's road wheel (Diameter & Depth), idlers, sprockets and track (both length of completed run & Dimensions of each link).

Thanks in anticipation, Jim

All I can help you with is that the Dunlop tyre was 4.45" wide whereas the Andre tyre was 4.65" wide

this is the only measurement from the Museum Ordnance special #10 on the Valentine tank

Hi Jim,

Two books worth looking at are the Military Vehicle Workshop Series MV-02 Valentine IV Exterior and the MV-05 Valentine IV Interior

The MV-02 pamphlet has a detailed breakdown of the suspension parts and wheels and a 1/35 scale drawing of the kit on the last page.

The publications cost about £3.00 ea and are available from

http://www.barbarossabooks.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=54_59

Both publications are highly detailed.

Jim I am off to Bovington tomorrow (Sunday), I am sure there is one there I will measure what they have if you wish. I cannot measure the track though.

Hi Darren,

When you go to the museum I would highly recommend taking a yardstick or tape measure, a camera, and a friend. When you take the measurement, have the friend take a picture (or the reverse). That way there will be no questions about exactly what was measured--the viewer can see from the picture. For smaller measurements take close up shots. Write down the measurements as well, just in case the pictures are blurry.

I can't do the yardstick but the rest I will. Thanks. Jim you need to be aware that if it has been moved to a new home in the new display hall I wont be able to gain access to it.

Hi Darren,

If you set a penny on what you are photographing you can work out the sizes from that lol, lol.

Hi Jim,

At long last I have a use for our door stop, one link of Valentine track, rescued from a hard target some years ago and to think SWMBO keep asking what do you want that old bit of junk for?

I will pics and measurements as soon as I can. I also have both Bellona publications Military Vehicle Prints on the Valentine and one that has a detailed plan of the Vickers 'Slow Motion' suspension. If copies of these would be of help just let me know.

cheers
David

They just DON'T have the same sense of aesthetics as the rest of us, do they?

That really is fantastic - anything you can measure, scan or send is absolutely welcome, thanks!

To the rest of you (Alan for the photos) Darren for the offer of measuring and everyone else for the PMs and e-mails, a huge, sincere, thank you - and keep them coming!

I realise that I may be 'teaching Granny to suck eggs' but Accurate armour do make Valentine wheels and tracks, if thats what you were looking for. I have a set coming for a VM Valentine.
