Hello to you all!
This is my ready to paint Panther II project. So far my plans are to give the little kitty a olivegrün basecoat with strait, hardedged stripes in dunkelgelb, but anything can happen
It's an old Dragon kit, but I've used a resin turret, which have the correct size.
Please let me know what you think.

Hope you like it

Lot's of details used here, looks great! I think your plan of paint sounds good too.

Thanks for sharing!

I am not an expert on this machine but I recently built two of the DML Panthers and this looks excellent.

I notice that the fenders lack support arms and hooks for the skirts. In Panther Tank by Jentz, the Panther II definitely has supports for the fenders. Is this an intentional modification on your part? I am not being critical--these tanks would have evolved over time and such a configuration is certainly plausible. I enjoy "looking forward" with my own conjectural projects. I am just curious.

Will you add IR equipment for the driver and gunner? I rarely see models of the Panther with these fittings. I am not really familiar with the IR gear or its planned usage.

But again, a great looking build. One thing that stands out for me is the rebuilt track hangers. I know how badly the etch parts in the kit fit, and the effort required to rebuild them, and can appreciate your work in that area.

Really great build. I'm working on a Panther II for the 'Big Cats' campaign. Your plan for the paint sounds good. Looking forward to seeing more pics!

Hi Doug
Thanks for the nice words! About the skirthangers/holders - You are right! They would most likely have been fitted, but the pictures in "Panzertrackts" show no such hangers mounted.
No, I'm not going to use IR in the driver position or for the gunner. As I understand, there were several IR systems in development, but the only one ever batteltested, was this one.
But don't worry, my personal "Tank-guru", mr Ackermans, will probably correct this, if it's wrong

Jacob,

I don't know anything about this vehicle but it sure looks interesting. Waiting to see some paint on your super effort.

I wonder which PanzerTracts on the Panther II you have then, as my copy clearly shows the fender supports on all pictures.

As to the IR gear for driver and gunner, that is all based on a fake, doctored photo, publised by Waldemar Trojca in one of his books as being a "solution b" and he nicknamed it a "vampir" Panther. This is all his own phantasy at work. And just proves that his "work" is often more the result of his own fabrications than anything factual.

But, the biggest thing is, a Panther-II turret had never been finally designed, and the Schmalturm as developed by Daimler Benz was started after the Panther-II project had been cancelled.

Part of the requirements for the Panther-II was a "Turm mit schmale Blende" (Turret with narrow mantlet). Although PT 5-4 shows a Panther-II turret in hashed-lines looking similar to a Schmalturm, they are not the same.

As to your model, what hubs did you use as they are of a different color than the DML Panther II kitparts?

Mr Ackermans
I'm a bit confused - When you talk about fendersupports, do you then mean the hangers for the sideskirts, or something else? I can't double-check on the picture reference, because the Panzertrackt was borrowed from a friend, but when you say they are there, then it must be so.
The hubs are from the Dragon kit, they're just moulded on the same frames as the tracks, that's why they're not the same light grey coulor as the rest of the kit.
Thank you so much for your always very construcktive feedback, it really helps getting things into perspecktive.

The fendersupports and skirthangers are all the same intricately folded piece of metal, and my personal favorite piece of PE to fold, it always ends up being a rock-solid little piece of etch work once folded!

This one shows the supports quite nicely:

Thanks about explaining the hubs!

Hi Ackermans
AHA!! Thank you - It's always nice to learn something new. The only bad thing is that I thought that this model was ready for paint...
