Finally got around to finishing my 1942 Cast turret KV-1. This was built straight from the box, although the barrel is aftermarket replacement. I wanted to try a winter camo on it - I used the hair spray method and am really happy with the results.

I really like the look of this build with the only possible weakness being the tow cables appear very clean and silver, I say possible as it could just be the pictures. I am not a lover of the white wash effect however you seem to have done a good job of replicating the look, especially how it has been all but removed from the wheels. Good work Grant

Hello, happey new year to all!
Nice white-wash on the tank! I also will try to make something like this for my german WW2 artillery-piece.

Thanks, Darren and Soeren. The cables are actually a dark metallic grey (Metallizer dark Anodic Grey, to be precise) - the brightness is due to the camera flash. I've always been torn about how to properly do these - the "rusty, weathered" look that I have seen on some tanks... well, I wouldn't go near a rusty cable in real life.

Grant I know a lot of cables I have seen on vehicles seem to be covered in grease or grease like substance, perhaps some of the tankers here can assist with the truth of the matter.

Hi guys, while I cant vouch for cables on ww2 armour I have spent alot of time using heavy cable such as chokers and tow cables for machines, these all have a dark red/brown patina to them but are not what we think of as "rusty" even newer cables get this look quite quickly. Just my 2 cents worth.
