You're an awesome figure painter! I like the compact base that still gives good feeling to the scene. Congrats on the finish

Excellent work John !
You've really managed to capture the atmosphere of battle on the Eastern Front.
Figures, armor ( weathering especially ), and ground work are very, very well done, fantastic !

Thanks for posting this over here. Your dio is really amazing! The figures are absolutely incredible...
Could you tell me/us what you used to make the slushy snow? Is it a mixture of products?
Thanks,
Bill

This is one of the best dioramas I've seen, everything fits together perfectly and it gives a good sense of action and the dirty feel for the war in Russia. Your painting skills are pretty damn good aswell.

Great Dio - love the figures what colours did you use?
Thanks for the comments. Basically what I did was to make a palette with the different variations of the Kharkov anorak colors in oil paints. I used various combinations of W&N Prussian Green, Olive Green, Raw Umber, Sepia, Mars Yellow, Yellow Ochre, and Titanium White that were mixed in varying degrees to obtain the shades of green, field grey, grey, and mouse yellow that I wanted. Once the colours were painted on the figures and dried, I applied different earth shades in oil paints to obtain the mud and grimy look on the uniforms. HTH.

Thanks Bill and everyone else for the kind words. They are very much appreciated. The slushy snow is quite easy with a bit of practice. I used H&A snow (but any powdered snow product will do) that was mixed with an acrylic gel gloss medium til I had a paste. I add just a bit of water to the paste to ease the transfer with a brush onto the ground work. Once it has dried I apply a wash of Sepia oil paint. That's pretty much it. HTH.
