OK i know there are a lot of happy Allied WW2 AFV builders out there, with the release of the AFV Club Churchills, The Tasca Sherman V and the Dragon M4 (not to mention the El Alamein Sherman IIs from both companies) but I'm sure we can all think of some other Allied /Commonwealth WW2 subject we'd like to see a modern kit of. Let's make a list to help the Manufacturers decide what new kit to produce next, Tamiya please feel free to join in too

We're talking Injection Mould Plastic kits here not limited run, expensive Multi media.

Personally I'd like to see a Matilda II in 1/35
Also we are desperately short of commonwealth figures, everymonth theres another 2 or 3 SS figure set released by the major players but how often do we see new Allied sets, especially commonwealth 2 or 3 a year if we're lucky?
Come on guys sculpt something other than German figures for a change!

Leave your requests for kits here.

I agree with the flamethrower tanks. For both the M3A1 and the Shermans. It sure would be nice to have a 4 ton 6X6 towing US artillery. And updated LVTs. And a 3/4 ton ambulance. And the new M8 HMC could come with wading stacks.

Hey Paul,
ICM has (or had) a Matilda Mk. IV in the works.

http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/icm.htm

You could probably lay good odds that it's going to be a Lend Lease vehicle with Soviet markings.
Cheers

AFV Club should continue their English armor line and do a properly-scaled Matilda...heck, if we're wishing, why not both a I and a II? But the latter would give them a better base for subsequent kits: Lend-Lease, Desert, CS, Frog, etc.

The Italeri Crusader is still being made, I think. so I doubt we'll ever see someone else do one. But a nice updated kit would still be welcome. Again, same basic kit, four versions (I, II, III, AA).

I would really, REALLY love to see someone do the T-28 Super Heavy. I just can't afford the AA resin kit!

About the only things I'd add to Alans list would be Scammels and the Albion FT15N gun tractor (with 17pdr!)

I'd go for the Scammel as well, but, in particular, the Humber IV, a good representative British 3-tonner, a NEW Universal carrier, Loyd or Windsor and an AEC Matador with 5.5" Gun...

Yeah I know, like we already had Churchills, before AFV came up with the new kits. I was talking about a new, modern tooled kit, where we don't have to spend out on extras, if we don't want to, to get a good accurate model.
I would be nice to get some good from the box kits of allied stuff that's all.

The last year has seen more Allied releases than probably the previous 10 (this year will see even more) ... So, reading this you'd think there HADN'T been any new Allied releases?

Let me (again) put a little bit of reality in this thread. Manufacturers don't need lists. Manufacturers don't read these lists much either. It's an entertaining way of passing the time, but, in reality, it won't have ANY effect whatsoever.

Most manufacturers come up with a list of posiible subjects and then do an evaluation based entirely on that using their researchers or contacts. Any 'public Initiative' (like the recent Tamiya poll) is pure PR. They don't have time to canvass public opinion (whatever that actually is) and certainly DON'T trawl the Forums looking for ideas.

Is there a modern kit of the Daimler Dingo? I did have a look at the old Tamiya one but it needs a lot of work - or at least a closed hatch, which seems highly unusual.

There is a Damlier dingo by miniart. I want to see some more Canadian tanks!!!! We Canadian modellers have no rams (besides the inaccurate verlinden one) to model. I want a plastic in expensive Ram 1 or 2!

Jim, you actually offer a bit of insight into the decision making process for developing a kit here. Can you elaborate? I presume that the people who design models have their own interests, and those interests very strongly impact the decision making process. I also presume that every company has an ear to the ground, just in case some obvious unfulfilled demand congeals. However, after a preliminary decision gets made, I would expect some level of market research to evaluate potential sales. Do the companies ever conduct polls or form focus groups? Do they float ideas past star reviewers and authors? How does a company determine that a new product will sell well enough to justify the development and manufacturing expense?

And to get back to the subject of this thread, can the average modeler do anything to get a kit produced? Obviously a huge laundry list of every obscure vehicle ever made provides no focus for a manufacturer. But what if the collective voice congeals on one vehicle? Does it have any impact?

My apologies if I am stepping out of bounds here.

Not even slightly! To answer your specific question first: 'Do they have Focus Groups?' They may, but I doubt it. If they do they keep it damned quiet... Some of them MAY (like Trumpeter does) use some IPMS chapters to evaluate NEW product lines. It's not that sophisticated that they would create a specific Focus Group..

I'm particularly close to a couple of manufacturers who quite often ask me what I think of a particular subject as a FUTURE release or a project worh pursuing (usually something I have NO knowledge of whatsoever ) So, in this respect I could be considered a one-man focus group?

Most of the decisions are taken by the companies themselves - releases such as the M2 Halftrack from DML was (possibly) as a result of the many campaigns which were run on sites like this - the majority (99.99%) are decisions within the company themselves...

Do write-in campaigns work? Probably not. If it's backed up by a MASS of documentation and NOT just a 'I want a XXXXXX in 1/35th scale' or a thread like this, it has no chance of seeing the light of day. An individual, following the same path, MAY have a chance to influence a manufacturer, however then the other (vital) factors come into play: Does it fit into the company's release policy? Will it SELL in the core market (the Far East)? and finally, is it a commercial proposition? ... Answer these in the affirmative and it MAY get produced...
