Hi Lyndon,
Rumors and speculation. The press release is that Fuman ruined the molds back in the 90's and they were scrapped (The Austin was not part of their re-re-release ). There is also the usual rumor of "lost at sea when the ship sunk." A recent poster at a quarterscale forum said he was at the Tokyo model show in 2005. Bandai brought several of these 1/48 military kits (not named) for pending re-re-re-release, but Bandai decided to concentrate on the lucrative sci-fi models, and these were returned to model purgatory.
Hopefully some of the molds still exists, and hopefully they will be reissued.

A complete resin kit of the early war version of the K5 was slotted for production this year by Iron Division. Right now the line is in the process of being sold to Bruce Culver and we plan on producing it sometime this year under a new label. The Bandai Kit depicts a very late/post war version. The new resin one will be modified as an early war type suitable for use in any Theater. Also in the works are a resin CMP truck and possible other versions such as the Gun Tractor, HUA and HUP.
