Cool, a Iwo sherman is on my short list as well. I have the Italieri kit and am thinking of using the hull from that with the M4A2 PTO parts to make a nice Iwo Jima sherman...only hard part is chosing which one! Do you have the Iwo tank warfare book by Harper? if not, you should pick it up.

Calvin, take pictures of your work and post them up here on armorama under the "constructive feedback" forum. You will get a wealth of tips and advice from folks. Also, keep in mind that 90% of making a good looking model take zero "talent"and is just a mater of doing the basics well. Each step, dont take shortcuts and push yourself each time to be exact and precise. Do that for each step, from cleaning up the parts, to painting, to decals, and together each step will make for a really great model.

Do start a build log of your PTO sherman...Id love to follow along!

Stowage! I finished doing the rear stowage this weekend! I selected from my previous pile, just fitting here and there, and deciding what looked "right"...and then using some Das putty, started making the pile of tarps/blankets (or whatever that stuff is on the deck in the photo)...
here is the start..
Photobucket

and keep adding a few more...threw in some guaze to break up the texture and add some visual interest on that side. Here is the result...
Photobucket

the ammo tubes are from Armor Research, and a the time of the photo I still had to tie off and tuck the ropes. Im looking forward to adding paint!

Here are the figures...the ones on the right are the ones for this tank, (stock taymia..i had nothing better.. we SERIOUSLY need more ww2 tank crews in plastic!). The ones on the lelft are for the M4A3E8 I did for the sherman campain...yeah, just now getting to putting figures in it! Those are Dragon "us army tank crew". Im not totaly thrilled with how they are going so far...but art is a process and its all in the refinement!

till next time...comments welcome!!

Jan, thanks for your comment!

Ok, a small update: I finaly got the tracks in, cyberhobby DS band tracks. I did end up cutting off one link to make them fit a bit tighter, and also dunked them in some boiling water for a few seconds to get the curl out of them (they come coiled in a box). However one of them I messed up one of the quide teeth when I dropped it in the pan, and in fishing it out with twezzers mashed one of the teeth...which I tried to correct by repeated dippings...but that actully SHRUNK the tracks, so I had to streach that side a bit. Still got it to work, but for those who are concerned about the length issue on the DS tracks, just do some repeated dippings in boiling water!

Tracks just have a coat of Floquil Grimey Black, then mounted. Ill weather them on the tank.

Here are some pics... Ive added the packs to the turret side, and all th stowage is added to the rear. Everything has just a base coat of paint, so there is no shading or weathering done...that is next!

Thanks James. Well, the contest im shooting for is on the 16th of May, so the tank itself will be done by then...the base will have to be completed after that.
