(to see the start of this build, go here http://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/129030&page=1 )
Here is an update…only a few more minor details to add, a tow cable, and im waiting on some Dragon DS rubber chevron tracks to come in
Canvas cover is milliput mashed out into sheets and sculpted/folded and blended. Tools are from Formations, and the rest is various scratchbuilt bits (such as the mounts for the turret rocket launcher.
I also tried using craft paint for weld beads on the dozer and skirt brackets. I found if I mixed in a little water based wood filler (Elmers brand), it worked even better. It filled in the cracks a bit better and gave a nice bead. That is all the bright green spots.
Well hopefully ill have time to start painting this baby in the next several weeks…
Comments welcome!
Andy

Andy-- that is some fine work. I follow from the earlier posting the paint scheme you intend to use. How do you paint the OVM and other small detals already glued to the surface?
thanks

thanks everybody for your comments. Only have to add the modified vane sight on the turret, and some handles on the rear engine deck, and a few more bits around the nose mount for the dozer blade.
It may be several weekends before I get to painting, as we have a full month ahead of us, so be sure to suscribe to the post and get the updates.

Andy,
That is coming along great, I can't wait to see it in person. Are you going to secure the wading trunks with wire...I seem to remember pics of some sort of cable that secured the upper parts of them from flexing?
The craft paint welds are slick, sounds like a small tech guide for our club.
Did the weight of the road wheel hanging on the nose keep it in place or was a rod welded in place for the wheel to rest on?
Ryan

I just went back and read the original thread, fantastic work. I hope you're going to turn it into a feature when you finsh painting.
Good to read your opinion on the Trakz Dozer set. I might splash out and buy the Verlinden one before I admit there's a recession.

thanks everybody...
DJ-- yes, everything is glued down. The Dozer can be removed though. Im now considering adding most of the stowage as well before painting.
Ryan-- yes, ill be adding the cables..or remnants of them. I will end up putting this on some type of base, maybe with a beach obstical or 2, so ill show the cables "snapped" from moving the turret once ashore.
The spare roadwheel is bolted on via a rod. notice the bolt on the center of the roadwheel. You can sometimes find pictures of the rods remaining minus the spare wheel. I dont know if DT-7 carried one, but I liked the look and found pics of other D-Day shermans with it, so why not?
Pat-- ill certainly love to do a feature...ill have to squeze it in between the reviews!
no paint yet guys. This weekend is booked with a Airshow and kids make-in-take. Maybe at the end of the month?
Ill start adding stowage and post some updated pictures.

Ive started putting decals on. So far, the Bison decals are excelent as far as thiness and thier reaction to setting solution. Im using the method a local club member shared with us many moons ago...
-- brush on Future (or other gloss clear coat)...wait day to dry
-- while decal is wetting and loosening, brush on elemers white glue onto the area you want decal to be.
-- slide on decal, position, pat down, etc
-- apply setting sollution
When decals completely dry (24 hours), use warm water and finger to remove glue/setting solution residue...gental rub with wet finger is all that is needed.
Ive used this method for years and it basicly made my decaling silver-free 99% of the time!
As far as the decals go, the side markings seem to be a little oversize EXCEPT for the "DT-7" which compared to an actual photo, is correct (the profile in the concord book has the DT-7 in a very thin font). Im wanting to move this project along...and since the real photos are not commonly published, plus the decals look good, im not going to worry about the oversize issue....
HOWEVER...ive only done the one side (side seen in photos and profile). What is provided on the sheet are identical for each side...so im wondering if the "double trouble" should be a mirror image for the opposite side? Thoughts anyone?
comments wellcome!
Frank--- the plan is to add a driver and commander, and mount it on a small base with a "beach" look with maybe a obstical or two.

Hi Andy,
Lookin good. I don't know this vehicle so can't say about the mirror image but it's likely.
Nice work.

What base are you using?
Jeff,
thanks for the comments... Ill be making my own base using a precut pine "plaque" from Michels or another craft store, then I usualy make a border around the top using some strip basswood, stain/varnish the whole thing, and then do some groundwork within. In this case it will be Juno Beach, and will probally have a angle iron obstical or two for visual interest.
I will probally start on the base soon.
Andy
