I like the idea, but I can guarantee what the vast majority of people will build: WWII Allied vehicles in German hands. It would be nice to see some of the opposite, but I doubt that we will.

A non-WW2 subject would/might be a Soviet T-55 captured and used by Mujahedin.

Well I'm up for this campaign idea, I'd personally like to do a Panther G in russian colours, but I have to say a Matilda sporting a Balkan Ruze is too tempting. hehehehe But then again there is the T34 that mounted a Flakverling 20mm. The list is endless. I wonder if this will give good friend Eyal an excuse to build a Ti-67..hummmm??????? Stug

I like these kind of things to built and I have done one so far and that is the SdKfz 250/10 in polish use against the germans.

If this campaign gets a go then this might be quite a valuable link for ideas. as they have a lot of pictures "strange" vehicles serving in "strange" Armies

I still like the "North Africa" theme. Any era, so you could build DAK vehicles as well as stuff that was rolling through the streets of Somalia. A technical next to a LRDG or SAS Jeep would be interesting. Plus think of all the Egyptian equipment, export M1s and the like.

I wouldn't mind going for that It just depends on when it is There's the Barbarossa group build coming up,plus I guess the half track build is gonna start this fall If people are still interested that is
I may end up doing a Yugoslavian M3A3 Stuart with the PaK 40 anti tank gun Or better yet the SU 76i A russian SP 76 based on the Panzer 3

"twilight 2000" was a RPG or role playing game from waaay back, which I spent a considerable amount of my misspent youth playing, the setting was a post-apolyptic limited nuke war you were in the military in europe after all the nations collapsed leaving you on your own to fend for yourself with whom ever and what ever you could get your hands on. that is if my memory serves me correctly. and if this what they mean for the group build theme, I am definately into that. sounds very fun
I could be way off base on this, but thats what I take the "twilight 2000" theme to be about

Some other things I remember about Twilight 2000, was one of the expantion packs for the US and the rest of North America. They had some interesting variants for modern vehicles like a M1A2 abrams with an elevating turret, or the M163 vulcan being used by the Texas border Patrol to keep the Mexican Army from invading the war torn US.All in all it was game made to represent the ravages of global war and thrived on mans need to survive in a hostle environment. The other thing I like was being able to get the Abrams on the Black Market made Traffic Issues go away hehehehe stug

I also wanted to put my suggestion for a campaign back in mind:
"21st Century Digital Tank"-
like M1A2, Leclerc, Challenger 2, Leopard 2A5/6, T- 90s, T- 84, etc...

yes, the "twilight 2000" I was refering to was the discussion centered around the old RPG...not flying nazi UFO tanks...heh heh

Something like Major Rob's MSgt. York would fit the bill nicely. SImple kitbashing would work. I had planned on a M113 with a LAV turret labeled a M115A1.

Yep - all of you guys summed up "Twilight 2000" nicely. I think it would be both great fun and a wide-open arena to showcase imagination and skill. For modern armor buffs it would be a lot of fun - for you could take your favorite vehicle and go to town with it. The way I envision the "Twilight 2000 Campaign" would be to use the game source materials and time setting from about 1994 through the limited nuclear exchange in Europe through to the global destruction and aftermath. Armor, Aircraft, Figures, Spacecraft (Real Subjects), and even Ships (remember the SSBN scenario) could be included in the "Twilight 2000 Campaign". For those who do not own the original gaming source books - there are half-a-dozen websites out there that have these references in electronic format.

I'd forgotten about the Twilight thing. Yes, that sounds pretty neat. Might use an M1 chassis as a missile platform for that one. Could even justify the idea of getting old WW2 chassis out of museums and mounting modern weapons on them. PzKpfw III armed with a TOW?

Oh Man!!

I have/had the rule books for that game (somewhere) and have been looking for them for a while now!

This is almost dead on with a thought I had for another Campaign... a dark future, perhaps post WMD, societal meltdown, etc. M1A1s at the local 7-11?? The corner gas station, a strongpoint manned by ??? The old imagination is ready to let loose on this one!

Yup! I'll sign up for this idea NOW!!

About using vehicles against former owners. Israel comes to my mind as top users of captured vehicles. Another theme would be when Finland turned against the Germans near the end of WWII.

Trump has a Ti-67 that would fit nicely. Achzarit is also a (heavily) modified T-55 conversion by the IDF.

Re:Twilight2000 "proposed rules", GunTruck, would that mean "strictly following" (for lack of a better term) the vehicles in the series, or broaden it to "using-your-imagination"? I was planning to do a major kit bash, using a Bulldog hull, modified Merkava turret, PzH2000 155mm gun, Abrams roadwheels and tracks, plus several .50-calibre HMGs and a TOW launcher. Crazy idea? Hell yes!

Then again, for the T2000 "campaign" I think I'll just up-gun and up-armor the Abrams (PzH2000 155mm gun, Challenger up-armored skirts, extra armor on the turret, a TOW launcher perhaps).

GIB - I think that for the "Twilight 2000 Campaign" to really work for modelers is to allow some freedom of expression in creating vehicles not chronicled in the source material. That's when the game really got interesting, when you happened upon some derelict and repaired it with what you could find - into a unique unit.

I would just recommend using the framework and spirit of the source material to keep the vehicles from becoming too Sci-Fi. The best part of the game was introducing some realism into the fantasy setting...

Two points:

1. For the Twilight 2000 campaign, I would think it would be a good idea to at least keep some semblance of reality with it...not TOO sci-fi...ie, a M109 turret on a M1 chassis would be cool, but a M109 turret on a old Panzer III chassis may be a bit too much. However, Rob's idea is neat...an old museum panzer II with a TOW/HOT launcher?

2. For a darker look, what about a RED DAWN campaign? Nothing says Amerika like commie/soviet/cuban occupation. Then you can have your NG troops guarding the local 7-11...with honor and valor!

heh heh - BRAVO Jacques! I could really get into a RED DAWN Campaign too! The Soviet/Cuban Bloc invasion of America - the mind swims with possibilities...

However, I don't have any figures that look like Charlie Sheen!

WOLVERINES!!!
