Here's my unpainted Tamiya King Tiger that I've been working on lately. It's my first project to have PE and it nearly drove me mad. Thanks to Oberst and SS-74 for some spare PE parts and help. Sorry for the fuzzy pics. I still need to get a real digital camera.

Hans, you have done a good job on this beast, the PE is quite good for your first project.
Intelligently, Hans visited the master of PE for some advice
Looking forward to the Ambush camo Hans,
Andrew

Glad I finally get to see it. I like what you've done with the fenders and I agree, the PE looks pretty good, quite clean. What set was this again? I am using Royal Model's kit for the King Tiger. It's a little tricky as well.

Very neatly done, but where are the mangled parts and big glue prints where you glued yourself to the kit with superglue like my first ... few.. attempts at PE? -grin-
Which PE set is it.
Looks good to me.

Rich, this looks good. Very cleanly built. Looking forward to seeing it completed.
ps: The other night in chat I asked what you were building and you replied not much,---you are too modest---this looks great Rich.

Very well done. You've done a very good job. The PE looks great.
One itty bitty detail could be added - a cable to the light in front. Just a short piece of wire.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.
The resolution of the camera doesn't allow you to see the extra glue marks, glued skin on parts, and other broken PE parts etc This is the newer Tamiya King Tiger with the Aber PE for it.
I was thinking of painting it in either an ambush camo pattern or 3 colour pattern. Does anyone have any recommendations on doing my first camo pattern? I'm still not sure if it should be a hard edged masked pattern or if I should freehand it. I don't trust my freehanding skills btw either.

great model !
actually it depends, i think the 3 colour pattern is easier to paint than the ambush camo,
but the 2nd one would definitely make it awesome and different, than the others 3 tone kit
that we always see...
just my two cents

Hey Bear.
I wasn't sure what exact tank I'm going to do. If I do do the ambush pattern I was thinking of following the Tamiya boxart. It's quite good, but the unit is unidentified.
I have some illustrations of the SS Pz Abt 501 in December 1944 in the Ardennes, from the 1st and 2nd companies. I also have drawings of SS Pz Abt 502 in March 1945 on the Oder front and the 503 in Berlin April 1945.
All of the patterns seem to be ambush with varying patterns. However, I think I may end up doing the 501 Ardennes pattern.
I'm not sure if it's just the illustratiosn but they seem to all look like hard edged patterns.

Just a question regarding this topic that anyone can answer for me. If you were to do a hard-edge camo scheme, how would you mask the pattern on the tank without breaking any of the delicate PE parts?

Richard,
Nice tank. It is very cleaned built. No glue or fingerprints marks.
Can I just ask something? What it PE?

Hi Richard ...be careful not all tanks of the 501SS had the ambush scheme..ie 332 and not all had the sharpe edge camo ie 222...but then again ...hey it is only a model right!! 222 was an Ambush but soft edge wierd eh! but this was a tank that was supposed to go to 509 but was comandeered at the last moment to bring the 501SS up to strength...That is why the numbers aren't the same as others in the division.(yellow only...maybe ?)Remember too that these tigers(most anyways ) were left with a base coat of red oxide primer and not dark yellow .As for the question of masks try using silly putty it is great sticks well but comes off easy and if you are careful you shouldn't pull off all the PE. If you want I can try and scan a few of the drawing in Tigers in Combat II or in the osprey's New Vanguard series...let me know if you need anything ...Always ready to help !!
