Terry Ashley's PMMS site has posted an announcement from AFV Club that they will "soon" release a 1/48 kit of the later SdKfz 251/1 ausf D. This promises to be an excellent model, as much of it will reuse parts from the superb ausf C. This time, the seat bins will be correct for the type, though they are a bit high. These two kits should give AFV Club excellent sales for some time to come, as there are perhaps more conversions possible for these kits than any other subject from WW2. The aftermarket producers are already planning to bankrupt 1/48 modelers who build WW2 German AFVs..... Great news for 1/48.

No, AFV Club has released the early/mid-war '251 ausf C, suitable for early Russia and North Africa. The ausf D is the simpler later version - simplified body with the extended rear overhang and faired in stowage bins on the sides. AFV Club makes very nice ausf Ds in 1/35 and I am very encouraged that the 1/48 kit will be a beauty.
