I have started to paint the smaller details. The wooden handles are valejo english uniform and the tarp is german field grey wwII again from the vallejo range of colours. I gave the tarp a light dry brush with the same field grey but lightened with valejo model colour white......

This Challenger is so nice!
Hope looking at your's will make me return to my own KFOR chally 2.
The tracks look really good!
The part with paint coming off happened to me too.Unpleasant situation ... but I fixed it.Enamel paint sticks better to the model, so all my base colors are enamel(with some exceptions).

Great work. The Chally with all the extra armour looks almost futuristic. I have to get me a Chally kit one of these days/weeks...

Here we go again
rob & martyn cheer's for looking in..........
I have just about finished all of the detail painting (i hope ) this was all carried out using vallejo model colour paints and thinner apart from the heads wich i used oils as explained earlier.
Next up are the decals from the echalon. These decal sets are about as good as a decal set can get you get lots of different options to choose from and the diagrams and art work are second to none! Firstly i empty a small amount of johnsons klear into an old cat food tin and paint the klear onto the model by brush but only where the decals are going to go.This will save me having to load up and clean my airbrush.I will apply a full coat of klear later on in the painting process.........

Heres a picture of the finished heads only the bodys to paint and they will be finished

All of the decals and detail painting are complete if i have missed anything then its to late now .When i mix the first wash/filter i only ever use mig oil wash brown.I mix the oil paint with odourless turpentine in my trusty cat food tin to a very thin consistency. The wash is applied directly onto the vallejo paint. If once the wash has dried to much has pooled at any one place or i just want to move the wash around i can now do so with a clean brush and some neat turp's.Once i am happy with the effect then i wil seal it with a coat of johnsons klear.

I'll be back soon

Neil,

Excellent work!!

You really should make this into a Feature! You pretty much have most of what you probably would need in this thread.

Keep up the great modelling!

Cheer's jeff
i have sprayed a coat of johnsons klear and mixed some humbrol matt black, mig wash brown oil paint and thinned them with odourless turp's.This mix of colours gives a nice dirty black/brown wich i think looks good for the more localised pin wash.It doesn't really matter if the wash does not go exactly where you want it to go as you can add and remove the paint even when it has dried just by using a clean brush and neat turp's.
I have left the weld bead half washed just to show the before and after .

It shouldn't be to long now jim
This picture shows the difference a coat of flat varnish makes.(The hull is flat the turret is klear)

Now the way i see it is that flat varnish gives a good base for dry brushing pigments. If i wanted to do a wash with pigments it just doesn't seem to work over flat varnish because the surface is almost rough and the pigments tend to lock onto it making it difficult to get that dusty look.
If you have got any advice then please HEEEEELP...............

Here we go again
I think that i am now starting to approach the finishing line .I made a very thick wash of mig pigment dark mud p033 and humbrol enamel thinners.I painted this mix along the bottom of the dorchester armour. When i did this a tide mark appeared i suppose this was always going to happen painting the sluggy wash over matt varnish.I then dried this with an old hair dryer and started to scrub the dry pigments into the matt varnish.

After i had scrubbed the first pigment i then applied small amounts of mig pigment dry mud p232 and blended this into the dark mud useing an up and down scrub with an older brush.

And heres one for jim..................
