Really like that non-skid.
cheers
One of the serious problems in planning against Canadian doctrine is that the Canadians do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine.

Hi rick
I'm glad you like it but it really does look out of scale on the hull, the turret is a differn't story. The turret does look really good and i'm very pleased with how it's turned out so far.As the saying goes "less is more"
Here's a picture of the chally after the dark green has been sprayed. Also the tracks have been primed and are ready for paint and i have completed the wheels and painted them in there sand colour.

Niel having just looked and looked again at the Anti-slip on the hull it doesnt look out of scale it looks it because of the spacing between the panels
Nice start on the paint

Thank's for the feedback men.
So here goes with the paint chipping.
A torn peice of scotch-brite.
A cat food tin.
And some masking fluid.Just pour some of the masking fluid into the tin then dab the torn scotch-brite into the mask and dab over the surface of the dark green. SIMPLES
A coat of Xtracrylix XA1813 british gulf armour lt.stone has been sprayed over the turret once this had been completed it was time to start pulling the masking fluid of.
i apologise for the amount of pictures but they do say that "a picture paints a thousand words"

Why do you not favour this type a weathering.

Give it a go it gives a good representation of the damaged sand paint on the op telic tanks.
And just look at those perfectley cleaned and painted wheels thats the kind of modelling that really makes a difference !!!!

Well, it came out nice, and I'm gonna try it at my Chally soon (I think that will take a month)
But I don't get the idea of modern camo with this. Just as modern vehicles don't get so much chipping usually.

Hi jaymes (have you just added a y to your name ?)
I'm still looking in on your simitar jim i'm just tied up with this build at the moment. Are you going to be doing the same kind of paint chipping ?
Hi lars

I think that there was a problem with the paint that the british army used for op telic and as the campaign wore on more of the paint wore off the anti-slip areas....
I have started to paint the tracks and most of my reference pictures show the metal parts of the tracks are a light brown/sandy colour showing a mettalic sheen.i have so far painted the rubber band tracks with a grey automotive primer (halfords).I then gave them a coat of model color burnt umber (941) and painted the rubber blocks matt black. When these paints are dry i will give the a coat of vallejo matt varnish as this will give the pigment wash something to bite into.Lastley i will touch the edges with a silvery colour dry brush

Lars it depends on the climate mate !, the climate just eats into the paint work and usually the paint scheme is just Temperary so with all the wear and tear the paint would simply crumble away and end up with a really worn effect!
Niel nice work on the Tracks

Ofcourse the climate helps tearing the paint up. But mostly it was like Neil said, the paint they'd used. Look at the U.S. vehicles over there. They have almost no scratches. Even the Iraqi vehicles weren't so heavily chipped.

Nice work on the tracks, are you planning to add some pigment?

This must be the Chally month!
I like the chipping area. It's a bit more than I was expecting but it looks very nice. You should touch it up a bit with a 2B pencil(just the edges of the removed paint) by making more little chips of paint to blend the big areas that don't have paint at all.Or the other way around by adding small areas of paint.
Thanks for the photo!

Cheer's for the comments yes i will be/have applied pigments to the tracks its just a shame that they won't be seen.
paul
I'm glad you got the picture but to buy the books is a worthwile investment. The paint chipping does look very harsh at the moment but the pigments and weathering will sort this out.............
This is where im up to at the moment i have just started the detail painting

O.K everyone
ere' we go again its chally time........................................
I have made a little progress with the painting process all those little bits that bring our models to life. All of the detail painting was carried out using various vallejo colours.
The front cip panels are the PE ones from the voyger update set and look to small to me.
Just look at the wheels and tracks don't they look gOOOOOd
Does anyone know what colour the rear mud gaurds should be black/sand ?
It should soon be time for johnsons klear and then...........................decals and that when we get dirty.

Hi Neil,
I've looked all the thread. You know, the modern stuff is not really my thing. Nevertheless I find your build log VERY interesting with great pictures. The "step by step" descriptions are really helpful.
I'm a fan of heavy weathering but the chips you made could be a little bit overdone in size. It doesn't really change the fact this is a great build!

I have reworked a lot of the oversized paint damage spit and the whole tank looks a lot less green
Most of the challengers deployed to iraq had a camo net around the front of the hull so i have had to try and make one.I used a polishing cloth that i have borrowed from work and some sticky lead strips.I have placed a peice of cling film over the model to stop the paint from getting covered in pva glue.Place the camo netting on top of the cling film then soake it in thinned pva.Once it has dried i can remove it and paint it.
(I HOPE)!!!!!
the big white blobby thing looks big in the pictures but as it is drying i am able to mould it to shape.
See ya later

Nice idea on the camo netting Neil - one thing I have seen done it to sprinkle dried herbs (can't remember the type!) over the netting to give some texture. I'm glad you've toned down the chipping, too.
Cheers,
Ian
