Hi ian

Quoted Text

one thing I have seen done it to sprinkle dried herbs (can't remember the type!) over the netting to give some texture

Most of the challengers that took part in op telic look like the camo netting was kept inside some sort of camouflaged bag that was then strapped to the hull so you wouldn't see the type of netting that you are refering to.......
Hi jim
Your still onboard after all this time? cheers jim
Hello evan
Thank's for the comments, your wish is my command!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have finally given the chally a coat of of johnsons klear and all the decals are on using micro sol/set.

The camo netting bag (i think thats what it is) the big long white thingy that i made earlier will be left to dry overnight.Once it has dried i will then give it a few coats of mr.surfacer 500 just to help smooth the material....

Looking very good Neil. The smaller chipping is definitely better. Great work!

i suppose the pressure is on me
Once the decals had dried i painted another coat of johnsons klear over the top of them but this time i used a brush. After leaving the chally overnight i mixed some mig oil paints wash brown & industrial earth with some white spirit in my trusty cat food tin.I then brushed the thinned oils using a 0/0 sable brush into all the nooks and cranys and around any bolt heads basically anywhere that grime would collect. Then i dried the whole model with an old hair dryer. This will really speed up the drying time of the pin wash, your talking minutes rather than an hour or so.

I sprayed two coats of vallejo model air flat varnish over the entire model. This was done so that i could dry brush the pigments onto the flat finish i find that this gives a really dusty effect.
The turret in this picture has been dry brushed with mig pigment dry mud P232 and the hull hasn't.

Yes jim it will have three crew men the two plastic ones from the kit with hornet heads and a left over one from blast models.
The picture below is a comparison on the left with the dry mud scrubbed in and left is without.

And below is after very small amounts of russian earth have been dry brushed.

Neil--what Hornet head set are those from? They really are quite an improvement over the Tamiya heads, I have to say. I'll probably grab a set.

Hi jim
Yes i think that your wright about the paint chipping,i could have gone a lot worse on the amount of green showing...............oh well maybe next time.......

They certainly are lucas, a nice little extra that comes with them are microphones cast from resin and a small jig so that you can bend some copper wire to attach the mic to the headphone.

Finally i have reached the finish line.I have not had much modelling time lately what with easter and my eight year old sons birthday but today i got to finish the figures. The trouble with plastic figures is that they are actually harder to paint than resin ones plus the fact that i have just found out that the british armys desert camo is i think very difficult to paint. The hornet heads were a dream to paint.I may not be that good at painting faces but it is one of the parts of building an AFV that i really enjoy and if they come out half decent it can really bring a 1/35 scale model to life.

Thank's to all that asked a question or just looked in at this build log.
