With much deliberation the Armorama Staff have settled on the winners for the Feb contest.

1st Place was the M1A1 by Paul Toma.

2nd Place goes to the 251 of Özgür Güner

And 3rd Place goes to rzemyslaw Szymczyk for his TKS Tankette

If the winners could please contact me with their mailing information we will send out the appropriate prizes.

Thank you for patience will this extremely difficult decision was deliberated and a well done to all that had entered!

cheers

Well,

I think most of us can understand your decision and do agree with.

I voted for Paul's M1 too.

But nonetheless I must protest against this kind of decision-finding.

I repeat it again: It is not stated in the rules.

Further it is also a question of acceptance...and transparency.

No explanations about the whys and whats the staff based their decision upon.

Please do not get me wrong: We all trust in the staff's competence and trustwortiness.

And would it be that difficult to select two winners?

Accidently I can serve with an actual example of the current football championship.

The season is not still over but if you look at the second place you will find two teams.

No one has been deciding (and will not) about their position beyond the rules.

Therefore I recommend you to revise the decision.

Marco,

Declaring two 1st place winners and 1 3rd place winner achieves the same thing...there are only 3 prizes available each month from the contest sponsor so some kind of separation has to happen for the 1-2-3. That's how DML determines which prizes go where. Since the rules are silent on ties, an interim solution is called for. The rules should be addressed to handle ties in the future but for this particular contest I don't see how else it could've been handled.

Bill,

would DML really say "No way!" if they were asked to endow once two winner's prizes?

Especially as it is their contest with a quadruplication of the recent competitors..

Another way which does not involve DML into were to organise a run-off vote.

Marco I did raise your concerns with Henk who is the managing editor for this area, he will be adding to the rules that "in the event of a draw the editors decision is final". Your earlier comments were not ignored, and have highlighted a weakness that needed clarifying.

would DML really say "No way!" if they were asked to endow once two winner's prizes?

Having dealt with DML in my past life here as an editor on the site regarding DMoMs...all I can say is trying to get something like that accomplished is the equivalent of getting an oil tanker to turn on a dime. DML doesn't care about the number of entrants, they only care about the free (nearly) publicity that sponsoring the contest provides them. The establishment of the 1-2-3 winners was driven by DML's willingness to provide 3 prizes and not the other way around when the contest was established back at the beginning. That's why when there used to be 2 categories (Beginner and Advanced) and the three prizes were split with 2 going to Advanced and 1 to Beginner...because we only had 3 prizes to award. DML is not a charitable institution, they don't just say "how many do you need this month?" when it comes to prizes.

Congratulations to those who won and to all who entered! It was great to see the high level of entries and participation by all.

For me personally, Özgür would have just shaded it in a run-off (although that's taking nothing away from Paul's excellent M1A1).

And that tankette is a stunning piece of work.

All three are worthy winners in my view. Congrats to all.

This is not the first time that we have had a tie, and as before, the universal rule " the Editors decision is final" was applied.
The decision was not lightly taken, as I will explain.
I did not know the entries, other than seeing them, anonimously, in the gallery. So my decision was taken purely on the two pictures in the gallery. This is of course how it should be, the contest is as much about the photographic presentation as it is about the actual model.
For me, the M1 just edges it over the Stuka zu Fuss, because the angle of view shows the effort that went into the stowage on the turret, the detail of the mine plow, and the figures, which are animated.
The 251 looks very well done, but the angle of the picture does not show of the detail very well, and the lighting (white balance?) combined with the blue back ground does not bring out the colours of the camouflage very well.

As for having a run off, it is hard enough to get people to vote in the first place. Despite Darren's and Richard's increased exposure of the contest last month, only 106 members felt it nessecary to vote, and no.'s 1 and two each only having received 15 votes, indicates to me that the level of participation from the members does not warrant the extra work for Darren and Richard involved in having to repost a new thread, and try to get people to vote again.

To have such little participation or response, is hard enough if you are getting a pay cheque at the end of the month, but when you put in the many hours voluntarily, it sometimes make you wonder why you are doing it. Voting only takes one mouse click, even if you don't scrutinise every entry...

Again congrats to everyone who entered and kudo's to the winners.

We (the Armorama Staff) have amended the DMoM rules to reflect the latest issues.

- Winners cannot enter the following month's DMoM.

- The winners of the novice catagory must enter in the advanced class forever after.

- Tie's will be decided by the editorial staff and this decision will be final.

cheers

Hello,

nice to see that everyone is finally satisfied with the decision.

Congratulations to Paul, Özgür and Przemyslaw.

Maybe you could post us here at armorama what prizes you will have receive?

Might be interesting for the others to see what for they through their hat into the ring...

Keep up - next month will be better.

First steps into the right direction are done: Increased amount of participants and...votes.

That's something for the beginning.

Well done to all.
