Hi everyone

this is Dragon's Tiger I Late Production. I dont know which kit exactly as I bought it a few years ago, started it and then left it sitting for a long time.

Recently I decided to tackle this monster head-on, and got busy. It is a delight to build I must admit ! I have been a bit off DML lately with their questionable marketting, but I can see why Axis modellers love them so much with things like this on offer.

The kit is built Out-the-box with no aftermarket products. I used Milliput and AFV club's roller to do the zimmerit. I lost the fire extinguisher so scratchbuilt one from a few bits.

Primer is automotive paint, red oxide primer, applied straight out the can. Basecoat is Tamiya Dark Yellow with a little buff. The weathering on the road wheels is done with MIG pigments, various washes and oil stains etc. These were just experiments on the messier inner wheels but I will carry what I learned through to the rest of the running gear, just not as heavy handed as the outer wheels always seem to have been brushed cleaner than the rest.

There are some hinges missing from where the front mud flaps meet the body of the tank these will be added later hopefully serves me right for not paying attention.

thanks for taking time to look

Jon

thanks guys, it seems the weathering experiments worked then !! I took a bit of a flyer as I've never done the whole "Crusty" axis look before. I hope to carry the look through to the finish.

in the meantime...

...I have applied camo to look like it was applied with a spraygun in the field, so lots of streaky and faint paint built up into a camo pattern.

I will now go back over it with dark yellow, to take the harshness off the finish and tidy up any areas I don't like - such as the heavy green on the glacis plate where too much paint came out when I was doing the green !

Thanks for looking

Excellent stuff Jon! The zimmerit looks great, nice detail on the turrets front edge, the red primer... I was thinking of doing one of my WIP Tigers from this basecoat! Really nice weathering on the roadwheels, looking forwards to the hull!
Marvelous, keep it coming... Phil.

Fantastic job with the zimmerit and etch, Jon. Very neat and tidy. I wouldn´t worry too much about tidying up the camo, with weathering, filters, washes, etc ... this will even itself out. Nice one.

thanks for the encouraging comments guys ! I really appreciate it.

Right now I am adding detail to the chipped zimmerit areas. At the moment I am unhappy with how bright it all looks, but of course this will get darkened with a coat of future and the subsequent washes... but still, I don't want to overload on the whole red primer thing.

I will give it the future coat tonight and see how it turns out after that.

Thanks again for looking!

Hi all

I have been experimenting with some new techniques (New for me anyway!!) and here are the results

unfortunately I've forgotten my camera lead so I can't update the latest pictures, these were where I finished up on sunday morning. The roadwheels are not all oil streaked, I did four with streaks four without, to avoid getting a uniform finish.

thanks for looking
Jon

hi guys

thanks for the comments whilst I've not been around much!

As for the tracks - well I'm afraid I'm too cheap for a set of nice Fruils. I would like some in future but for now it's the DML magic tracks and nothing else. They aren't too bad I guess but I hate indy links... they never work out how I want em

In the meantime this thing gets nearer and nearer to completion. The only bit I haven't worked on much is the front glacis and the rear panel, although I haven't done anything with the spare links on the turret either. The jack isnt even weathered at all yet.... I have been working to get one area at a time out of the way.

Decals are from Bison (lovely set!), weathering is mostly with oils plus some pigments just added.

thanks for following my thread, I appreciate your kind responses!

cheers
Jon

Gorgeous Jon! I love the chalk marks leftover from the signwriting of the turret stowage bin numerals, and the handpainted forward turret side numerals, very authentic... I also really like the fuel over-spill(that is water staining around the radiator filler caps eh Jon?) caps on the engine deck and hull roof. The red oxide primer gives this Tiger a rich vibrancy and depth. When I get to grips with a section of the N175 you are welcome to sit her on it for a photocall with some of '221's' siblings. Oh I have got some DS tracks going spare if you want them... There not to bad actually, when wrangled and weathered Nice kitty you have there mate, keep us posted on it's journey.

Thanks for sharing this fine beast... Phil.
