Some food for thought. Just hoping it's no old hat for what-if fans...

No Dingo! An article in GBM a year or two back suggested the French army was interested in buying Dingos for use as liaison vehicles but things got in the way. The same magazine also carried several articles on some of the more baroque French tank designs proposed for post-1940, which make the G1 shown on the top line seem restrained.
Thanks for the link.

Very interesting concept vehicles. Might make some interesting conversions.

That SAV-AU-42 is very intersting. The M38 armed with a 57mm gun really should have been made.

Hi Frenchy,
You wouldn't happen to have any photo's of the Stuart with quad 20mm Flak, or with the Pak 40, 7.5 laying around?? I've got 4 Stu's and have been dying to find better photo's of those variants. Thx.

Hi Brian
Here's the only "good" picture of the Yugoslavian PaK 40-fitted Stuart I've found (from http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks )...But you probably already know it
Talking about the FlaK 38-fitted variant, I've got the old Finescale Modeler issue (April 1996) that includes a build article (but no pics of the real McCoy) . Just PM me if you're interested...

Frenchy,
Thx, I knew you'd come thru!!
I've got the Flak quad 20mm photo, grainy photo, out of the Squadron Stuart book and it said something about the Pak 7.5 cm variant being used also, but no photo.
Thx again.

I love the last one the SAV-AU-41 w/ Petard. Its got the bomb thrower from a Churchill AVRE mounted in the hull like the B1's 75mm...lol
Some of these are very plausible conversions...while others are...not. The ones utilizing the old 'French 75mm' cannon from WW1 fame are the most likely in my opinion. After the end of the decisive part of the 1940 campaign, the French were granted a small reprieve to reorganize while the Germans reoriented and reorganized their forces. The French GQG ordered that the old 75's to be de-mothballed and sent to the front as AT guns (which in 1940 worked very well). So providing that a few trucks survived to this time, and weren't being used for anything else, its very possible to see the 75 on them.
I'm also a bit concerned as to the FT-17 w/ 20mm, and the Bren Carrier w/20mm. First, I'm fairly certain that the FT-17 doesn't have enough room for a 20mm gun, nor for more than a handful of rounds. Its possible that the 20mm would be more useful if it was on a towed mount or on a truck...since by 1940 standards FT-17s were basically immobile. As for the Bren, I'm very intrigued. Do you guys think that they've got a SPG, or a full turret on that baby? It would probably have to be offset to the left side of the vehicle as well-considering you don't want the driver sitting directly underneath the muzzle with no acoustic protection...otherwise in short order you get a deaf guy for a driver...
Not that I wouldn't want to build one though, they look like fun!
