Channel construction depends where you are. The german ones normally use a slopped profile with wide, thick walls/damms (you can stand a tank on the walls) Vertical walls (often metal or concrete covered) where only used under bridges, in harbors and while crossing through towns where the channel was restricted in width and used a box profile. One example, didn't change much since WWII

There is some photographic evidence of fireflies with hull machine guns.

There is a preserved Firefly turret set on an M4A2 hull in a museum display, but the combination is not original.

The hatch has now been glued shut - but aside from that, would it be used for loading amunition or was the area stuffed with racks for the main ammo so getting anything in and out was impossible ?

Hi

Great looking diorama. Look forward to seeing this progress. I think it looks fine. It's surprising what can happen in real life. You'd think this would not stay as it is but fall back to the ground but clearly it hasn't

Use of zimmerit was discontinued after the last Tiger I left the plant, so all Tiger I´s had zimmerit except a few of the first made.

Got the framework for the house glued together yesterday, today I covered it in cork and wallspakle - going to leavet til tomorrow to dry up. Door is scratched and windowshutters is from a Master Box kit.

Still thinking about the roof, might use tiles for the large roof and currogated iron for the outhouse to suggest that its a later addition to the house.

the tigeris to far of an angle up. try moving it down a few, so that its leaning on the canal wall. it will look more "possible"
other then that its very good.

It will be leaning on the embankment - regarding the turret, there has been much rumours about tigers loosing there heads - let me clarify, Tigers are very selfconsious animals that are not prone to loosing their heads in public

For discussion only, from my samples of tigers in combat I + II by W. Schneider

A 90 + degrees tilt

And a less than 90 degrees:

My guess is, that the turrets are secured to the turretring.

Hi Ole

The cork is from a floor and carpet store (tæppeland) - its used under wooden floors laid on concreet floor to dampen the noice and steps.

The spackle comes premixed and ready to use in 10 kg. jars - I have a old house under continued rebuilding, so stuff like that is allways at hand. You can get it at all paint and homeimprovement stores (Hem og fix f.eks.)

Even if it can beargued that the frame dosn´t really have much to do with the diorama and the story, a nice frame or surrounding does ad something to the overall impression and quiet surroundings do make it easier for the spectator to focus on whats really important, the story and the diorama in itself.

Glued on some thin wood - the suff used for finery work ? - I´m going to darken it with some staining and give it a solid gloss coat of lacquer.

The edges will be trimmed to fit the landscape and the building, I´m going to leave a low edge at the water, to restrain the water when I get to it.

the advantage with doing the edge this way, is that it saves space compared with the more traditional pictureframe type.

Cheers/Jan

Looking really good Jan!

I can’t agree with you more on the frame! It’s like with a painting, framing is 15% of the experience. I usually do the framework at the beginning of the build, making a box of wood and filling it with building foam, then cutting and shaping it to the contours of the landscape.

But of course given the shape of you dio, it make good sense to do it that way.

Looking forward to following you build!

Looks I am particularly late to congratulate you about your latest Jan. Another "stairs" diorama it seems? There is a great balance about the whole scene, and your house is being very tightly built, I congratulate you and will wait for the next instalments.

Thanks Ole and Jean-Bernard - Yes, another "stairs" - I find i like multible level dioramas.

I have added some woodstain - rather dark, but i like the frame/edge to be as little a distraction as possible, and I find the dark colour works better in achiving that.

The edge got a coat of clear lacquer and a light sanding to remove the raised woodfibers, and a additional coat of lacquer. Now its strong enough to mask so i can paint the landscape without damaging the edge.

The landscape have recieved a black coat of ordinary wallpaint - you can get cheep sample at most paintstores, and lightly diluted with tapwater they make fine basepaint. Black ads shadows and depth to the structures.

And a testfitting - I have begun work on the Tiger, adding zimmerit with putty and a screwdriver. A little tight fit, but with some lighter colours I think it will work.

Hi Jan

Is looking really nice. Are you having the right hand track draped over the edge of the canal too having just lost connection with the drive wheel but scraped by the road wheels into the canal?

i like the way one of the sherman crew is trying to see out into the edge of the canal in the last shot.

I have given it a initial workover with the airbrush. This is what best can be described as the first step in a long journey.

I´m going to let it dry up for a day or two while working on the Tiger. Then i can look at it from time to time to get a good feel of what colours to ad next.

Thanks guys !

I ha ve cut the tiger down a little as i found it too dominating and hiding too much of the area behind it.

Theres a empty space to the right of the building, and I plan on filling it one of Master Box´ splendid figuresets. Great poses, but the fit could be a bit better.

Comments welcome as allways
