Would love to see a comparative review with the Tamiya, which I recently built.

By other reboxes do you mean other versions? If so, the answer is yes. They produce, or have produced, Opel Maultier, Opel Maultier w/ Flak, Opel Blitz late (wooden cab), Opel Blitz late w/ woodgas, and Opel Blitz Radio version (which can be converted to ambulance I assume). They also make the Mercedes version, however, it is not an accurate represenation. Also all of these kits feature early style front wheels, but resin replacements can be found. What is a prebox?

I think what he means is earlier issues.
The answer is yes, several different renditions and variations of box art have been used over the last 30 or so years. It was also re-issued by Heller a few years ago.

I would like to add to lacks of the given model (modelling of some) from Italery often meeting problem: different quantity of nuts on forward and back wheels. On their forward wheel can be 8, on back - 6. How much I know, this firm does not make more modelling number of German tracks and to buy them very difficultly.

Forgot to mention, that there are quite a few different after market sets for correcting the wheel problems. The biggest problem is the grill, and 99% I have seen built, the builders seem to not loose any sleep over it.
As to the lastest and greatest from Tamyia, well it has a few problems also, See Terry's review on the : Opel Blitz
So you pay the cash, and take your pick.

Also was done by Testors, with differant box art. Same kit as Today's Italeri.
Still a good kit, just throw some more skill at it.
Cheers!

I have that kit in my stash along with the Griffon (??) Model upgrade and am hunting around for better wheels. When you say it's inaccurate, can you be more specific? I want to know if I can fix its problems or should dump it.

Don't get me started about Italeri.

It's a somewhat Mercedes cab on an Opel Bltiz chassis.
I believe Haussar makes correct wheels for it.

Don't tease me, Dave.... Is it fixable? What is the difference between the Mercedes and Opel?

Hussar has Opel Blitz wheels both EW and LW.

My mistake, Signifer Models makes the Mercedes 3000s' wheel set.
wheel set.

They are/were different than the Opels wheels.

Thanks, Dave. Is there anyone besides GreatModels who carries Signifier? They're a "special order" from them.

MR Models produce both early and late wheels for the Mercedes. They also include some other accessories - most significantly the large toolboxes the MB carried beneath the body. Judging from photos, the model's cab, bonnet and mudguards look like reasonable representations of the real thing.

I found the MR Models updates listed on the Accurate Armour site.

As I understand it apart from the common wheel issue, the chassis is the wrong size, as Dave said they took the Opel Blitz and put a Mercedes cab on it. I think the engine might be lifted from the same kit and I understand this is wrong, of course only a concern if you are showing it with the engine visible.

If it's to much for you to bear building it with only changing the wheels to correct the obvious then pop it on ebay. I reckon you'll get a good price for it. Heck if you were in the UK I'd make an offer as I don't think in the scheme of things either are bad kits.

Certainly I expected the Tamiya one to be a whole lot better than it is for detail etc. considering the time span but I think the Italeri one stands up well in comparison.
