Hiya,
promised you an update, well here it is:

or if it doesn't work: http://groups.msn.com/armorama/cmdm48build.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=10631

There still remains some detail painting to be done, but now that the campaign end has been postponed I will be able to do this timely enough ...

Looks very nice Andreas. I really like what you did on the vision blocks. What did you use?

Looks really good, but in my view in some of the pics is a bit too shiny... What are, if any, the steps left to complete it?

This might help make it appear:

Looks good, who makes this kit?
BTW, I think the shinyness brings out the 1950s era paint schemes when the Army mixed gloss black with their OD paint. Very reminescent of the Cold War.

well, as I said, I not complete satisfied with the current appearance. I'll use a few more washes and shading before I will call off. However the basic color is actually shiny, as far as I know this was the case with the 50's tanks, especially the early Pattons were not heavily used (how could they be ) For the periscopes I used gloss dark blue by Revell, the tracks will need some more weathering and the US stars will have to be shaded.

Andreas

Your M48 looks good. All armoured vehicles in the 50/60 period looked 'shiny' and new.

Relative to the sheen in the photos of your M48. As a young tanker, among other things, I waxed a tank or two to impart that sheen. The tanks that I served on were very well maintained and "spit and polish" was the nature of the beast at the time. Yours looks fine in that regard.

So,
here it is, the finished kit:

or check my album @ MSN:
http://groups.msn.com/armorama/cmdm48build.msnw?albumlist=2

The nature of these early tanks permits the massive use of accessories as most of those M48's were not really fit for extensive use without major rectification. The M48 makes a nice contrast to a Vietnam era M48 next to it on the shelf However with a few years of experience behind me this also shows the amount of work I will have to put into the old M48 to bring it up to standards. Anyway, the CMD and the AFV tracks are the ideal combination for anyone who wants to build a M48. With "relative" minor effort you can also assemble it into a M48A1 .

Great job on the M-48. This is one of my favorite tanks. I like the finish. Very realistic.
