I like these ideas especially the DAnish and Armorama ones

I'm also in the club of not always finishing something right away as the mind wanders into other possible projects. I have a shelf dedicated to such projects to go back and forth with projects where my interest at the moment takes me.

Goodluck!

Martyn - nice array of smileys, Mate!

If they're all just for the primer, it makes me wonder just how many you'll deploy when you get the thing finished, LOL!

Hey Martyn
at the moment your rusty finishes dont look to hot, im presuming your using mig pigments?
a while ago for my stalker dio that never really got past the plannign stages i experimented with a variety of tehniques to simulate rusted finishes, and old paint. i used primerialy the Salt chip method, and the spongue technique.
im gonna explain how i did these ( both just brush painting) and hope you absorb some techniques or such to help you .

for this one, i used rust and smoke mig set, tamiya nato brown and nato green.
fisrtly base in a dark brown, using nato brown mixed with black, so you have a dark brown.
then i mixed a washy paste of Mig vietnam earth over the surface, when dry i dabbled the other colours as per migs intruction leaflet on the surface, creating tonal variation, i sealed it down with a few drops of water, then sprinkled salt all over, then left it to dry, then i used big drops of nato green ( so i didnt disturb the salt with too much brush movement) ( or you could just spray it )
when dry i chipped it off with a scalpel, leaving Real, Flaking paint.

Method 2 , i think looks good, much easier.
you need a sponge extra for this
base the kit as above, dark brown, mig paint wash, pigments.
then take ya sponge, and stipple on a primer colour ( focus on primerially the areas you still want paint to be. ) ( you dont have to do this stage you can skip the primer bit if you want) i used a ight grey,

secondly, stipple your seltected green over it more heavily. and Ta Da.

dont forget to keep the plastic parts rust free
hope this helps

If I could jump in here and add my 2cents. Both of your rust affects look ok. Some times rust does not appear as it should in photos. I use real rust powder and it always shows up a bright yellow/orange. I never judge a persons rust until I see it in person, and everyone has his own technique.
Martyn It's looking good my friend. I could tell it is still in the painting phase. By the way I liked your Hummer build and the rust did come out nice too.

No problem Martyn, it just upset me a little that he basically dogged you on your painting. I know it's just a feedback, but not very tactful IMHO. I have been doing and studying wrecks and such for atleast 8 years and would never TELL some one how he could or should do it.
Your doing just fine so keep up the good work my friend.

so you wouldnt give constructive feedback.
it was feedback, it gave techniques in a clear way. i was NOT saying "Martyn, Do it this way, Pick My way!"
ah im not gonna partake in this anymore.

Hi James

I did read what you wrote, several times, before posting my comment. I am guilty of writing quick replies that may sometimes seam straight to the point or maybe even rude. Martyn did write in his post about the lighting conditions under which he took the pics. That may be the reason why you thought his rust didn't look so hot. I too could have written about his paint/rust but he isn't done yet and I know after years of trying to take decent pics that lighting plays a big role in how the rust looks.
Your rust isn't that bad too and may be even better under different lighting conditions. I would especially like to see some finished pics of the T55, I'm working on a couple right now.
Sorry if I offended you, it was not my intention. Like I said I read your post and interpreted it that way. Let's just enjoy what he's doing and wait to see the end result.

Happy modeling to you both

Rob

I like the burned-out car Martyn (very good bullet-hole effect as well). You pulled it off nicely. Congrats on the 2nd place for it. What was the competition?

I'm following this project with interest.
