I like the burned-out car Martyn (very good bullet-hole effect as well). You pulled it off nicely. Congrats on the 2nd place for it. What was the competition?

I'm following this project with interest.

Thanks mate it was one at a model show, my first entry.

Hmm it looks ok Martyn. A few pointers however if I may. First of all it looks as if the underside hasnt been painted yet. I would spray the entire model in primer, then a black coat first, instead of leaving bits unpainted. Try and build the whole model and glue the main assemblies together first. It looks like you have the upper and bottom half of the hull seperate, when it comes to gluing these together you might get glue on your paintwork and will probably have to do some filling to, which will again damage any painting you have already done. So my first point is build most of the model, so all the sanding and filing in one go-i know its boring but it is essential. Then primer the model and add you black coat.

Next I would say you should add your coat of soviet green. When weathering this try and weather it like a real vehicle would weather. Add the green to begin with for the soviet color, then start adding lighter an darker shades were necessary. Add the lighter shades where the sun has lightened the color and the darker shades were you're going add the rust. The I would suggest you begin to add the base color of the darker rust where you want to add it, begin by laying down to dark rust colors on certain areas, so that you ca progressively lighten these rust patches where you want. You will notice on many of these abandoned soviet vehicles that the rust isnt so harsh as on many vehicles because they are not exposed to damp, so the rusting is very different to a vehicle that would be exposed to damp.
I would strongly advice you check out some of the builds over on the MIG forum for rust techniques, as well as Andy Taylors T-55 builds, he recently did an abandoned T-54 which I have pictures of, I can email them to you brother if this would help.

Robert,
I for one would certainly be interested in seeing your photos. Can you post them, or send them in as a feature?

Great work Martyn, interesting to see a wreck project... how do you plan to lay the various vehicles out on the terrain base?

Hi Guys, I had kind of forgotten about this, kind of like the forgotten tanks that are still in afghan. As for the base, I plan to make a new one and add some more things to it.

Great idea for a dio. I can see it getting a little pricey for my budget though. Look forward to seeing more.

Hi Steve,

A lot has gone on since I last looked at this dio. I scrapped it. I went through a patch of no motivation. But I pickedup an old copy of Model Miltary internation! With the dio of the Tank grave yard in. It got me motivated to start work on the dio. I have done a tiny bit to the brdm.

Just lack of motivation stalled my modelling but starting to get back into it.

Thanks

Martyn
